Hmmm never really like Fear, every level was the same there was no openess in the levels too linear.
What the extras included with the orange box are they worth it?

If you already have any of the above then you can transfer the game to a different steam account. I suppose this means in theory you could sell them off, unless it breaks a EULA or something?
I plan to give HL2 and Ep1 away as early xmas presents.
Portal and TF2 I would say are definetaly worth it! Portal looks very interesting.

You should check out the link ^ and watch a portal video. Its basically a lighthearted first person puzzler, as far as I know the only weapon you get is the portal gun, which is like a grav gun which can make these portals.
TF2 looks good fun as well. All in all I think its a great package and I would pay the same price even if HL2 and EP2 werent included.

I think that would be an accurate comparison. Watching some of the videos there are some nice fight sequences with combo moves and stuff, I recommend going to IGN and taking a look! Ditto for all the above games in fact :)
Am playing Medal of Honor airborne at the moment, not to bad apart from nazi snipers :x
The demo for COD4 was released yesterday and as mentioned Bioshock looks a great game crysis is due for release end of october isnt it?

The Orange Box (TF2 and Portal look like a lot of fun)
A year away, but Fallout 3 looks great, the franchise has been taken up by the creators of Oblivion.

well, it has a Trial mode, you can download and play, but can only get up to level 6 i think. Its not a "finished" game as such, mostly because its just one guy and his wife that made it. Its only really worth playing to mess around and fight on horseback, which is a lot of fun.
I'm not sure if it has been put here previously, but Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is fantastic. And this is coming from someone who hates war games, hates team-based gameplay and hates the Quake 4 intellectual property (upon which it is based).
I don't know what's so damn good about it, but I can't stop playing it.

I'd suggest you go back and play through old games again - I had tons of fun playing Half Life: Source (it looks a bit poor, but my GOD!) - Then try Quake 2 as well - it really makes you realise how poor and contrived most single player games are. Get hold of Deus Ex too - same as above and the first level is a bit of a steep learning curve - but I honestly believe that nothing has bettered it.
And best of all - you can run them all with all the options turned up! Just marvel in the gameplay...

Helllllllllll yeah son. I recently played through Quake and Quake II (and both mission packs for each game) and Half-Life Source too. In fact I found a great texture pack for HL:S... I'll see if I can fetch a link...

Has anyone mentioned F.E.A.R. yet? That was good...
F.E.A.R. was great the first time through, but it lacke replay value due to the lack of variety in the gameplay and environments. It was like "Any environment you like, as long as it's a metal corridor".
Oh and I just finished Half-Life 2 Episode Two, and I think I might have actually enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I've experienced this feeling for a new game, but I'm pretty sure it was enjoyment...

Indeed there is - there'll be F.E.A.R. 2 (which you don't want because it's being done by a different development house but the same disty) and another one (perhaps someone else can enlighten us as the name) which is by the same developer and a different disty).
A bit like there'll be Far Cry 2 & Crysis - the former by a different developer and the same distributor (who owns the name Far Cry) whilst the latter is being developed by Crytek but will be released by a different distributor (I believe it's Vivendi who are the guys releasing Far Cry 2).
Just another scene in the pantomime I guess... But one not to be caught out by.
I prefer old games - playtested more and hence alot less buggy than the releases that have come out recently.
Thats why I've still got my DosBox open and playing Little Big Adventure :D

Personally I wouldn't mind playing the original doom and doom 2 with a new engine although if you included the amount of monsters in them, PC's would be blowing up all over the earth and that is the limitation and why any remake wouldn't be any good since you'd have to tone it down.

Just play Doom 1/2 in gzDoom engine. Uses Open GL and allows you to use mouse look. It makes it oh-so-much more playable.

Played the demo, its pretty good, but I see it as one of those games that once you have the best build order for your units sussed then its all over before a shot is fired.

Dawn of War is a good game; I like that you can change the colours of the army so it makes for a colourful multi. Shame the single player campaign was abit short.

I always make my armies bright pink. Firstly its dead easy to pick them out during a fight, especially in games like homeworld where its all dark backgrounds.
And secondly most people associate pink with girly and weak so they think the game will be easier. They stop thinking that when my pink killtrain rolls over their base :lol:
EDIT: And thirdly, people find electric pink just plain offensive to the eye. So while they think about how garish my guys armour is, I'm in their base, hacking their command centre!

No, throw the DVD away, download the demo instead. Play and finish the demo, marvel at the atmosphere and perfect execution, then forget about the rest of the game.
I found it increasingly dull after the first hour or so, but the opening is simply masterful.

Bioshock i'm about 4 hours in and i've got to say its up on my top list of best ever games!! simply supurb :)

Bioshock goes downhill after you complete fort frolic. Thats one of my favourite levels due to the eerie statues everywhere. Some 'statues' are scarier than others...

I replayed it on hard mode, and went the evil route [killing all sisters]. Ended up with more money than I could actually spend! And then I got to the point when it said my wallet was full!!
By the end I had every slot unlocked, guns upgraded, and was a walking juggernaut. I restricted myself to using the wrench only to make things harder, but with wrench tonics stacked the wrench is awesome. It was all too easy!

I couldn't believe they cancelled Deus Ex 3. If they were going to make it like the first outing rather than the second then it would have been such a strong game.
Such a good story and great characters - the game really made you feel for them.

me and sean have started playing gears of war on the pc, co-op over lan is excellent however does anyone know if the game has an in built coms system as shouting to each other to decide who gets what ammo is getting annoying, i suppose we could use teamspeak if nothing is available.

Yeah its an addictave game I am afraid. Although there is FAR LESS grind than in WoW because your actions are not tied to experience. You gain skills through the passage of time.
So all you need to worry about is getting cash for ships. Yarr.

I remember the feign death feature from Unreal. Was useful, but generally resulted in most people popping a few extra rounds into anyone who 'died'.

Amusing little story about the recent Eve-Online (http://www.eve-online.com/) free expansion (http://www.eve-online.com/trinity/index.html) that was released yesterday.
Yes it looks AWESOME, and things are vastly improved ingame.
BUT it removes your Boot.ini file if you have Windows XP or lower. Thats because EVE used to have a Boot.ini (ohgodwhy?!) which was considered obsolete, the latest patch removed it but clearly used a wildcard to do so. C:\Boot.ini gets nuked.
HUUUUGE thread on the Eve forums about it, most amusing as I am on Vista and unaffected :lol:

My housemate who plays eve has XP and he shut his pc down after getting the new content. So I think I'll be fixing his Boot.ini this evening :P
Its not a big issue for someone who knows about PC's but a lot of people will have to spend money to get this one fixed. CCP's EULA protects them from this though :twisted:

Soldier of fortune 3 I thought would be cracking if it compared to first two, but again got 5/10 in most reviews. Another one to give a miss. (why do so many decent games change developers and bring out rubbish sequels!)

Well I went for the Orange box because I wanted portal and EP2, works out cheaper to go orange as soon as you want more than one of them.
To be honest I played Team Fortress 2 a total of 1hour and havn't touched it since, just didn't grab me. Already had HL2 and EP1 and I gifted them to my housemate for xmas :mrgreen:
Was still worth the money for Portal and EP2 though, but if you just want Portal then get it on its own.
EP2 is amazing! and I had forgotton all my steam login stuff for ep1 and HL2 which I am going to replay, and portal WOW, yeah orange box is supurb value

Second Sight by Free Radical Design. Just finished this one and thoroughly enjoyed the story and the style, even though the gameplay was a little patchy in places and the controls (keyboard and mouse) are hardly suited to it. I should have got the Xbox or GameCube version.
I just love all their games, which is hardly surprising since you can trace their beginnings back to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark - two of my all-time favourite games. TimeSplitters 1, 2 and Future Perfect were also fantastic. I can't wait to see what 'Haze' will be like (unfortunately no PC version though). Oh, and TimeSplitters 4 of course! Been waiting a long time for that.
May have to check this out

I'd rather choke; it's old games we should be playing, most new games are a bucket of wee if you ask me. Guitar Hero's gotta be the worst of the lot. Don't get me wrong I'm not one of these "Dude it totally doesn't make you a rock star, it's nothing like the real thing" idiots, I just personally think you could have more fun with your genitals and a big knife.
lol, Guitar Hero is a great game for 2 players, however single player mode is a bit boreing after a while. It got me hooked for about 2 days but now it's a bit lame, i've gone back to my real guitar :)

The first I saw it was like I mentioned when I got PREY. I thought it was a fantastic game - better than DOOM 3 and Q4 but it came out after them and no-one was interested even though it had concepts well ahead of its time. Would have made a fab MP.
Now that Valve have made a portal game suddenly its the best thing since slice bread and someone should stop the train and give credit to where its due.

oh and another thing. yahtzee is not god. everyone has jumped on the bandwagon because...he just takes games apart and everyone is sick of the stuff we get from other review sites.

And if you listen to that *** Yahtzee, your game library is going to be very small. And the guy liked Peggle for Christ's sake. PEGGLE. I'd rather play Superman 64. And that's saying alot. No-one says they'd rather play Superman 64 lightly. He reviews console games almost exclusively anyway; games like Guitar Hero and Mass Effect. Two more games I'd rather die than play. Since I haven't thought consoles are worth owning since the Nintendo 64 (I did however buy a GameCube and Xbox after that) I have little interest in his reviews which seem to have the same fanboy following as Portal itself.
