View Full Version : iphone 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S
best deal i've seen on the Samsung is FOC phone, £27 a month with 600 mins xnet, 500 text, and unlimited internet - am i right in thinking instead of sending MMS I can use internet and email for free?
Iphone not seen any deals close to this, my bro has just got one for £130 phone cost on £40 a month tarif, not much better tarif than above on O2.
Is the Iphone really worth the extra outlay. (LED flash on iphone was something he really wanted)
yep, just add the pic as an attachment and you good to go, better tbh as it doesnt scale the pic down like mms :)
have samsung done any offical updates yet?
/strokes his lovely desire xD
Where did you find the foc galaxy s?
even better £25 a month with 8 months half price rental! FOC galaxy

Well that's 'tethering'; depends on whether the network allows it I believe. Of course there's no real way to stop you if you root the phone. I think that the 'unlimited' internet deals have 'fair use' policies though; if you started trying to leech gigabytes of torrents off the net you'd probably run into problems.
andyn's right - tethering theoretically allows you to do that but they all have fair use policies....
Oh, and my Desire running v2.2 is the mutts

looks like the first off charge has gone up £20
mines £45 a month lol
Ripped of bad lol. Unless you got unlimited everything.
TBH the iPhone 4 isn't worth the extra you'll pay for it over the Galaxy S imho.
The led flash is good but thats it.... Galaxy S is more powerful than the iPhone allows more storage, flash support with 2.2 f/w. App store apps probably better on the iPhone camera without flash is better on the Galaxy S. Both as easy to use as each other. Cant tether without paying extra on the iPhone, galaxy allows no issues.
upto you though. Personally Galaxy > iPhone. But as I've said before goto a shop and try them both.
Can the galaxy really do everything the iPhone can? Proper web browser, proper e-mail client, be as smooth at the iPhone?
Not looking at changing as I love my 3GS but just wondering.
Why only the choice of 2 ?
I assume the Galaxy S is very similar to the HTC Desire, which does everything my wife's 3GS does, and more :thumb: for cheaper :D

You could have spread the £150 over the tarif duration and got more mins/text/net and free phone?

i've looked at many reviews and it seems the desire is the older handset and gets beaten by galaxy and ip4 in most reveiws.
This tethering sounds interesting! was about to sign up for broadband but this may save me £20 a month, not fussed about torrents.

Yeah galaxy has bigger screen an faster gpu, cpu are similar an so is everything else :thumb:
Worth noting though even though galaxy s has better spec's techradar rates it 3rd best phone in the world with iphone 4 as 2nd an HTC Desire as 1st :thumb:

Considering both the iphone 4 and htc desire were reviewed before the galaxy came out there review isn't true.
The Galaxy is more powerful than both those phones and the reason techradar rate it lower than the htc is because they love the htc sense thingy... personally having had a iPhone & the Galaxy the galaxy I prefer the UI on the galaxy and I can do more with the galaxy than the iPhone. Never tried the HTC so can't comment too much on that. All I can say is that being the more powerful out have the 3 phones and using the same primary OS as the HTC how can it be the 3rd best phone?????
The ONLY thing that lets the Galaxy down is the lack of the Camera Flash end of.

And the fact the case is slippery as hell. I've nearly dropped mine a few times while taking it out/putting it in my pocket. :S
Anywho, my stepdads mate whipped out his iPhone 4 in the pub the other weekend and we had a little top trumps battle. After 10-15 minutes of playing around with my SGS he rather sulkingly said "I wish I got one of those now...".
:D
loving the galaxy, going to compare it to my bro's ip4 when i see him!
Glad your liking it mate.
just say no when somebody asks if you want to try their desire, it will only make you sad :D
tethering is great on mine, im getting 4.5mb from it lol, nearly as fast as i could get from bt but its costinga bit, £5 for every 500mb or if my bill hits £60 notes a month its unlimited.
either ways its cheaper than broadband would be on a hardline and my latency isnt too bad either :D

Literally did the same with a mate of mine yesterday. He started off saying, "I love my new iPhone" (which he bought SIM free for £550 ) and about 15minutes later of comparing and web browsing (the Galaxy S is seemingly significantly faster) ended up saying "well, at least mine has a picture of fruit on it rather than 'with Google' written on it." and then started attacking the fact that it says 'with'. Desperate times call for desperate measure eh? :thumb:
Iphone 4 owner here. Used to have the n95 then got the n96 and after getting the iphone 4 i will never go back to nokia they make the worst smartphones

n95 and 96 are what, 4, 3 year old phones now? comparing them to an ip4 is a tad apples and oranges really dont you think. i had the n95 and the old ip and the iphone lasted a couple of weeks before i went back to the n95 as it just lacked the features i used.
you want a phone to compare to the iphone from nokia have a look at the x6.
anyway
samung sucks, iphone sucks, nokias suck DESIRES RAWKS!!!!!!
MUHAHAHAHARRRRRRR!
/me runs away
I weren't really comparing the phones side by side i was trying to say that imo nokia lacks a decent os and has far less features i use as oppose to apple.
Personally i feel nokia are way overrated.

Argggghhhhh why you..... Desire SUCKS!!!!! Samsung Galaxy is in a different class. and before you say anything I'm rocking froyo too now ;)
I have a Galaxy S and think it's great. Good Screen, runs fast and plays Robo Defense. :)
For more serious stuff, the email synch works well and the web browser is good too.
Not seen the iPhone 4 so can't comment on that.

well yea, i agree on the whole they are lacking but thats because nokia paved the way and others have moved it on. the symbian 2 os is old (4 years i think) and is the main limitation but what it did was showed there was another way. thats why i said look a the x6 if you wanted a nokia to compare as it has their newest spec hardware and the sym 3 os.

why are they stocking it in toys r us now
you know i agree, its gpu does put it in its own class but im not convinced it will ever get used as much as it should as they always make things for the lowest common denominator and thats the nexus 1 :/
has it helped your quadrant score?
Been playing with galaxy s and a desire today and must say the build quality on the desire is much better. Dunno why Samsung made the galaxy s like that.
