Hi guys, right i dont know what the problem is but sometimes when i play games my game will freeze up then i get a messege on steam saying "blah blah application has stopped working" or something along those lines. I dont think its anything to do with my overclock on the cpu because its stable and i can ALT, CTRL & DELETE out of it then just close the game down. i have reduced the over clock on my card to 850/1150, so its not as if its a major overclock thats unstable as i have ran tests and temps are around 60c-65c so i dont think its overheating. I was wondering about the power delivery though :| maybe theres not enough juice going to all the components and that could probably stop them from working correctly or something like that, i really dont know to be honest just a thought anyway. I dont really have to buy a new psu, but i am planning on getting another 5850 for crossfire in the future so maybe this could end up being too much for it even though its a 850w psu, there might not be enough amperage on the 12v for graphics cards. Another reason i dont want to buy a new psu is because trying to sell this psu i currently have will be a nightmare because it only fits 3 certain antec cases :(! but anyway, any suggestions :|?
i doubt this one is hardware. look for a driver problem i would say. or could just be the game.

check your VRM temps underload, you might be suffering from throttling as theyre getting too hot. your OC is pretty HIGH no matter what you think of it. personally i think GpU overclocking is a bit silly. maybe a slight OC say 50-100mhz for a small bump but you were at what? 250mhz over stock? thats huge.
check your VRMS
have you over volted too?
take this advice... dont kill your card as it will be the most expensive mistake you make.

sometimes i have found that games on steam become unstable with even a small overclock anyway, not sure why..

Games were unstable on Steam for me at times with Windows 7. Even at stock clocks to get rid of any hardware issues that may be causing it, it still crashed.
Which game(s) is/are crashing?

think i will just stick at stock then i suppose hasnt been overvolted or anything daft like that, works fine with some games doesnt work so well with others, the main culprits are Dirt 2 and Mafia 2, dont know why but they just keep crashing on me. Had BFBC 2 crash once but that has never happened again since. Latest 10.8 CCC was downloaded with latest drivers so there shouldnt be a problem drivers wise. And i dont know what VID is lol

i have never had any games crashing on me until i got mafia2. this game crashes alot. i have modest overclocks but this isn't an issue with other games. they'll probably patch mafia up abit to make it more compatible in the future. i have nvidia cards/drivers aswell.:)

dont know m8. i just know i was worrying about the same thing and when i read your post i wondered to myself if mafia 2 was causing it. when i read your next post and you said dirt 2 and mafia 2 were causing it i just thought it must be the game as the exact same thing happens to me, game either freezes or just goes off and says "game stopped working". i'll note down what happens if it keeps happening to me and let you know.

no problem mate, its just when it comes up "game stopped working" i get mad fuzzy colours about my screen on webpages and the flash player keeps crashing etc so i reset and that fixes it, a bit of a wierd one this is.

yeah, i normally have to reset everytime. i haven't noticed any fuzzy colours but then again i've just reset straight away everytime so i could go straight back into the game. next time i'll go into internet explorer etc and see whats happening.
even my games are crashing/freezing the pc. :(
when did you update your drivers for ccc? I'm using 10.7 with no problems in steam and I've got a good overclock on my card.
Try a role back to the last driver and see if the problems go away.
one more thing did you check the vrm temp ? 5850 cards have some troble with the pads degrading.

defo a driver issue
are you overclocking the card ?

Isn't the lowest power supply for 5850's in xfire like 650w?
Btw, tell me how that goes when you get round to it!! Definately thinking of doing the same thing :D
