View Full Version : Radeon HD2900 Pro

Seems to beat the 8800GTS at everything except OpenGL and Anti-Aliasing.
*Glares at brand new 8800GTS* :x
The 2900 Pro is only going to get faster as the drivers mature, and cheaper when other brands bring out their cards.
2900 series will be EOL at end of this month

Hah! Get them while they're hot!
Keep your eyes peeled for the 8800GT as well in the upcoming months - my sources say it gets over 11000 point in 3DMark 06 and will cost \"less that $200\".
If it's correct, it should be available in the UK for less than £150 (inc vat and everything) which would make it quite a bargain...
Ahh, so the green team might well cut its prices in line with the 2900Pro then.
Oh well, hopefully 8800GTS cards will experience a significant drop to warrant buying card number 2 8)
i feel like ive been bent over ande exploited :(

thought that was only on fridays
no i get exploited most days, i must enjoy it ;)
I have found this card for £169.99 including delivery.
Will Aria be getting any of these? My housemate is in the market for a new GPU and this one fits the bill!
£169.99, that is naughty. so do i ditch my 8800gts or just wait for another upgrade sometime in the future?

My 8800GTS isn't even 2 weeks old and I want to replace it :(
I think nVidia will be doing some price cutting to compete with the red team though.
The other issue with the pro is that you have to get them now because they are in rather limited numbers so I hear.
I simply can't afford to replace my card, so I will stick with it. 8800GTS is still a good card. *Keeps telling self that*
But the pro is basically an underclocked XT, think of the potential!
maybe the 8800 gts will become more reasonable and then i can stick another one is and sli them :D
I bought a 7800GTX last year and a week later they bought out the 7950GTX
ill sit tight and wait then unti the 8800gt comes out and see how that affects the gts price

In the future a second GTS could be quite a nice cheap upgrade. Just a second hand one or something for not much dosh might give a nice performance boost.
This is also a future where I have saved for a 2nd monitor.
I gots a 7950GX2 (which is pair of 7950s - but uses a single slot) and a Dell 2405 - gaming at 1920X1200 is possible - and adding IF and AA is always nice...
I would have SLI if I could - but truth be told - I'd rather have a fast single card - SLI and CrossFire seem to just add bragging rights - I've not found anything that actually needs them...
I think the main reason I want SLi is because I just want to be able to tick it off on my list of things to have done with computers.
Like overclocking, water cooling, dual monitors, etc.
Something interesting to do in this hobby of computers. I enjoy these things.
Although I think one day when prices of 8800GTS come down it will be an affordable upgrade.
I'm with PP on this one, sli-ing anything but the TOP TOP end gfx cards is pointless imho, and then if you do ahve 2 8800ultras (or whatever comes out and topples those) unless you have a 30\" screen running 2560x1600 then you are wasting your £££, imho.

Yeah I agree; early adoption of SLi is a waste of money unless you go for high end.
But if I have an 8800GTS now which cost say £180. In 6 months 8800GTS will be a lot cheaper than replacing the old one with something for £180 which might have only a slight performance boost over buying the new card.
I can't predict the future, but I like to keep my options open!
Its surprising how many people I see wanting x2 8600gt's to SLI them instead of just buying an 8800. They are very adament the SLI config will be better, like they can cheat by spending less money and getting better performance - which isnt the case :(

I dont think its about better performance, I think its about bang for your buck.
They are still very silly people for doing that though
[quote:fb0482b038=\"PrivatePyle@Work\"]Disagree. SLi is a gimmick and a waste of money. Sell the card you have and buy the next one up. Unless you have two 30\" screens, then I can perhaps see the point in 2 x 8800 Ultra's.[/quote:fb0482b038]
SLI + Multi-monitors = No.
And I'm waiting for RV670 personally (Radeon 2950) which will be out soon. It should blow away the current AMD offerings.
Oh boy...

I want to kill myself for buying an 8800GTS.
cool, i didnt know you could even do this.
cool, i didnt know you could even do this.
Pro's are XT's that didn't achieve the required clockspeeds. So you can clock them back up to near XT speeds with all the pipelines of an XT for a fraction of the cost.
I am not amused.
I guess thats just life really :-(
Anyone got one of these cards? It would be interesting to see some benchies...
Or do I have to buy one for that purpose? Dont tempt me...
