Ati Graphics Cards

This may seem like a nooby question but do ati actually produce physical graphics cards for retail.

I ask this as I bought a used 4850 a while back and it has no indication of being from a gpu manufacturer (xfx, sapphire, etc) but I had never heard of cards being manufactured for sale by ati.

ATI used to make their own cards up until a few years before AMD bought them, now I think they send the designs out for 3rd parties to makes them.

They may have started making their own again after AMD bought them though, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along and answer.

i thought they made the reference boards (the ones that are just plain black without a name) and sent some of them to other companys to either put a sticker on them or make a new cooler for them. some companys make there own pcb/change the parts on original pcb.

ATI no longer exist as of a few days, amd have completely bought them over so now the 6xxx series will be known as "AMD READON 6xxx" etc :)

Wasn't it already completely the same company and they have just changed the branding on the gpu's from ati to amd?

So is this whole package in question (card and cooler) made by ati then?

yes, I've seen cards manufactured by ATI... I prefer other manufacturers tho
