View Full Version : Bass Riffs
Im after a few songs with some good bass riffs in them (Aaron?:thumb:)
Kinda like the start of Higher Ground by RHCP but i want a bit more like, Not just the start.
I saw an audio demo by KEF a few years ago and they have a demo DVD of this big black guy in a band dressed like the pink panther. Man he could play bass. I guess it was Jazz more then anything.
Any ideas?
Oh and i want good stuff, Not some **** by any new people. -VE for people who suggest it!:knock:

Bassline to this song is awesome, especially the intro :p

Bit heavy for me Gav! Just noise!
Intro's still good regardless of the rest of the song :p
Bit old...
Intro (first few bars) to Tool: Swamp Song

Nice and easy to learn if you're picking up the bass
Fields of the Nephilim : Celebrate (most ironic song title ever ;) )

and is it specifically Guitar Bass riffs you're after ? Or are you testing a new speaker / sub setup - if it's the latter I've always loved Massive Attack - Angel :D

Bit of a bouncy one
Green Day : Longview

I do have a bass but I'm more a guitar man.
I just love bass riffs, not bass in general that you make with electronics. Proper string bass stuff!
Are you looking specifically for something slap bass-ish, like the start of higher ground, or just something with a good bassline? And are you looking for a band can it be anything? Off the top of my head, you could look at (some might sound a bit dated, but the playing in them all is just stunning):
Songs:
'Amazing Grace' by Victor Wooten - all played in harmonics at the same time as accompanying himself with a slap line. Absolutely stunning.
PA-ZKDOoBnk
Mr Pink by Level 42 - cool once it gets going about a minute in..
QKI8pFqWm0s
'Can't Find The Time' by Joe Hubbard on the album 'Hubbard's Cubbard' is very cool for bass soloing, and particularly the slap solo from about 3mins 45secs - I had to play it a few times, and its quite challenging, but great when you pull it off!
oTXgLPhnChk
Teen Town by Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius (if you can find a good recording). I've also had to play this, and its a killer! Maybe a bit more jazz than you were after though (all played on a fretless!):
lSUk8bSVHYcwDQlSSOXU6A
Dune Tune by Level 42 - more of a solo than the sort of thing you mentioned but still cool and quite easy to play too..

Not sure if there's anything in there that you're after - tell me which ones you like and I'll give you more of it
General, more modern bands I'd look at would be:
RHCP
Propellerheads - might be a bit too electronic for you tho!
Early Incubus
There's quite a cool slap bass bit in a song called 'Redefine' - about 2 mins in.
Also, the whole S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album is relatively heavy, but got some good riffs in it.
Battlestar Scralatchtica is defintely worth a listen
Early Hoobastank (and some later stuff to a lesser degree)
Pendulum is quite cool, but I'm not really its what you're after
Muse
I'll keep thinking too :)
Cheers Aaron. I will check these out when I get a few mins.
Tryin to weld the roll cage into the car at the moment!
