OK no holds barred if money was plentiful this is what i would go for, from Arias site anyway and i'll keep it realistic at the same time.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz * 95W G0 Stepping*, i have chosen this cpu as personally i don't really see the point of spending almost 4x as much for a few mhz more, if you have an endless supply of ££ then go for the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6850 3.00GHz (775) instead. : - £176 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Quad+Q6600+2.4GHz+%2A+95W+G0+Stepping %2A+%28775%29+?productId=28356)
Abit IN9 32x MAX WiFi Socket 775, another product i have owned and a good motherboard for features and allows decent amounts of overclocking and SLi capable too : - £175. (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/+Abit+IN9+32x+MAX+WiFi+Socket+775?productId=25543)
Corsair 4GB PC2-6400 C5 XMS2 (2x2GB), i chose 2x2gb for the memory as using 4 sticks can put extra strain on the memory controller and thus effect the peromance of the system, especially if overclocking. : - £211 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR2/DDR2+800+%28PC6400%29/Corsair+4GB+PC2-6400+C5+XMS2+%282x2GB%29+?productId=27910)
150GB Western Digital Raptor SATA 16MB x2 in raid. This would be the boot drive, supposedly the fastest drives around but also quite noisey, apparently. : - £270 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/150GB+Western+Digital+Raptor+SATA+16MB+?productId= 23817)
500GB Samsung Spinpoint SATA2 16MB x2 for general stoarage, raid if you want to for extra speed.: - £126 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/500GB+Samsung+Spinpoint+SATA2+16MB+?productId=2516 2)
XFX GeForce 8800 ULTRA 768MB PCI-E DDR3, The 8800 ultra is currently the most powerful single graphics card you can buy : - £420 (£840 for sli setup if you have the £££) (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GeForce+8+Series/XFX+GeForce+8800+ULTRA+768MB+PCI-E+DDR3+?productId=27177)
Tagan TG-1100-U6 Turbojet 1100W TurboJet Plus Quad SLi, if you are running dual 8800's you are going to need a silly powerful psu, this should do the job. : - £185 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/500w+%2B/Tagan+TG-1100-U6+Turbojet+1100W+TurboJet+Plus+Quad+SLi+?productI d=28533)
30'' Dell Widescreen TFT 3007WFP, to justify the cost of dual 8800's then you should be running a major resolution like this monitor can supply.: - £800 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Displays/Monitors/TFT+24%22+%2B/30%27%27+Dell+Widescreen+TFT+3007WFP?productId=255 32)
24\" Hyundai W240D Professional LCD Monitor , keeping it realistic though (unless you have the money) then i would go for this 24\" monitor and a single 8800. : - £365. (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Displays/Monitors/TFT+24%22+%2B/24%22+Hyundai+W240D+Professional+LCD+Monitor+?prod uctId=28720)
Again I have deliberately left out a case for the same reason i.e. because they are a subjective choice, what i like might not necessary be to other peoples taste, likewise the optical drive, i might choose a black one and the builder might choose a sliver case. I will say check the details on the optical drives as not all come with software, some are also sata and some ide, check to see if its the one you want.
Keyboard and mouse can be purchased for a few pounds up wards so again i left this choice to the system builder. Also remember you will need an operating system
Total for the components above for the \"realistic\" system ie single 8800 and 24\" screen should come to approx £1900, remember this DOESN'T include a case / keyboard / mouse or operating system, a good case / keyboard and mouse could cost around £150+ so call it £2050 + os and you have a very good system the only real upgrades are the addition of a sound card XFi for example or going SLi and big screen which would add nearly £
