View Full Version : Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro
Well, i've just ordered one of these with Virgin (£20/month 200mins, unlimited text + web), it's coming tomorrow :).
Now, 2 of my friends being iPhone users have told me that i should've got an iphone instead -.-, and virgin is really bad...
i'm looking forward to it actually haha.
I'll let you know how i feel about it after i've opened etc. :rolleyes:
I doubt i'll disappointed? I've had a Sony Ericsson V630i which has lasted me 5 years now.
Problem is your using andoid 1.6 with no details of when its gonna goto 2.2.

it's the kid brother of the x10 which has been out a while now and thats still on 1.6..
I had a look at the x10 range before settling on the Samsung and it looks like it's getting the 2.1 upgrade shortly.... but all the rest are going to 2.2 which isn't great when you have a latest phone.
If your happy with it thats all that matters though. Just not 1 I would have gone for personally.
I was really tempted by one of these, slide out real keyboard should rock :thumb:
As you say, it'll update soon enough, and the apps on android are as good as iphone imo - my wife has an iphone 3gs :)
hmm, im not really in with the whole smartphone thing. All i'd use really is texting, pictures, calling people, and email. and maybe it might replace my ipod touch ;)

Its cute and my girlfriend loves hers it fits in any pocket its cheap to buy and very cheap to run its cute and the only small cutesy android phone so I guess its better than the tiny non android phones. She loves it and is very happy.
from a techy point a view its terrible. Even with the 2.1 update which my phone got in October 2009 its way behind, android 2.2 is 300% faster than 2.1 so why did sony not jump straight to that for the next update ??
Its bogged down with a custom build where sony have made the android os almost unrecognisable and twice as slow as the stock builds and then under powered the CPU to make sure it was really slow and unresponsive like all SONY phones, expect to wait a lot.. the screen is too small to watch movies or look at photos and web pages.
on the plus side its great value to buy and run. The prices in the android market show you what a con the Iphones really are. It comes on good plans and you dont have to be on the biggest tarrif like you do for the larger android handsets.
you say you only text and phone etc... but thats because facebook or this forum was never a realistic option before. Id get prepared to do a whole lot more even with your new girls phone :P

Keep an eye on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=723 to see if they can root it and you can get rid of the bloatware Sony ROM. Last I checked they had rooted the X! but couldn't do custom ROMs yet so they should have a head start on the mini

Yeah, that's rooting. But I can't see any custom roms yet. So unless you are going to use the superuser permissions I would wait for now
honestly. I like the phone, i've read a few reviews saying that the battery life is poor, so i might be a paranoid but hey.
5 hours of hard solid use (downloading apps, texting etc, using apps etc. and it's onto 65% battery.) The screen on it's lowest brightness is still very bright, so i guess the improvement there would be to lower the brightness more(to save more energy, as it uses 63% of power consumption).
Took me a while to get contacts set up with facebook, i'm still confused as to how it managed to get half my contacts already on the phone and not the rest. all sorted now though (i think haha)
i like the touch screen. and the UI. Honestly, i feel like i'd rather have this phone than an iPhone 4. I'm bored of the iOS layout, and this phone's app's list is exactly the same as it, but this has a home screen and widgets :D

nice, i have thin fingers, so i'm not bothered about the size, the buttons click and they're hard, which i prefer.... and it's qwerty so everything's there where i expect it to be lol :)
Im glad you like it , all android phones are good despite some companies best efforts to ruin them!
I wouldnt root it VJ. you dont strike me as the kind of person to be hacking your android and SONY will reap revenge on you. HTC dont mind you rooting but SONY is a different story.
get angry birds for android it rock, no it isnt about my love life its a game thats great fun and free.
it gets your contacts from facebook
set your screen to auto brightness
and goto http://www.appbrain.com/ and use that instead of the market to get stuff you'll love it. You need to add the appbrain app on your phone then you cna just use the website as the app store instead.. I also added trillian IM as it works as the chat in facebook which isnt on the android version.
Angry birds not showing available now :( Loved that game on the iPhone.

thanks SENTY. yeah i probably won't. I can wait for sony to update things i'm in no rush when I already like it how it is :) 2.1 later this month will be interesting. I didn't realised that this had GPS! :O :D
GPS rocks although it does a great job of faking GPS by using wifidata to locate you.
My favorite GPS app is foursquare, basically you "check in" and on facebook it says "SENTY just checking in at costa coffee blackpool" and any mates nearby know where you are. Id does raise privacy concerns but im resigned to the fact that nothing is private these days.
also google places directory is handy if your in a town you dont know that well.

was browsing earlier today, found and app called ADW.Launcher which changes the UI, and you can have themes etc. and switch between the UIs etc. it's quite nice.. (i think ;))

Android 2.1 started rolling out yesterday evening for Nordic countries (31-10-2010).
Scrolling down the comments on the blog post at XperiaX10.net, there was a few mentions of UK's kit being released at 12 noon today... I checked at my friends house earlier, had nothing.
And now, still nothing for me.
I'm with Virgin and considering debranding my phone, so i can get the update..? I've just rooted successfully :D
On Sony UK's twitter, they're saying that they're waiting on the phone operators.. so hopefully not too long? :D
Rebranded my phone, i'm now on 2.1 and lovin' it :D
it's a lot better than 1.6. :D
