Another question

Looking at getting one of these
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Drive+Bays/Internal+%28For+SATA+Drive%29/+Icy+Box+138SK-S+Full+Alu+Alloy+Rack?productId=21812

Will it support Sata2 though? Is there electronics involved or is it just a bridge so to speak :?

Cheers
Mat :)

EDIT: infact i dont know, iv only ever really tried a SATA 1 drive in there. But in the Spec it only says SATA 1.0

So i dont know.

Thanks

SATA is natively hot-pluggable, so that should only be a mechanical device with wires in - there's no need for any internal power or data conversion or anything...

Although it's possible the PCB doesn't have adequate crosstalk levels or noise reduction to allow SATA 3Gbps speeds...

Since it explicitly states it supports SATA1 - I would assume that it definitely doesn't work at SATA2.

Hmmm. Doesnt seem they do a sata2 one

I'm not 100% sure you'll notice the difference anyway...

Yeah, it's not really important. It works with both SATA 150 and SATA 2, but it won't give you the extra bandwidth of SATA2. If it's an external disk you're hardly going to get near the theoretical limit anyway...

Well it was going to be holding my vista install so i can plug it in and out depending on what i wanted to boot from.

Its not important. I can just unplug my XP drive and plug in my vista drive in the case easy.

Will have to google later if i can change my chip in XP or not.

Thanks for your help

Sata2 drives should be compatible with a sata1 interface, either automatically or via a jumper.

Indeed - but I think the SATA2 speed was desired - not just functionality.

Correct :)
