View Full Version : Could I Crossfire?
Given my current specs, do you think i could crossfire another 5770 without upgrading my PSU again? (current one is less than a week old)
I've looked into it and most websites are saying different power consumption levels so im not sure which to believe.
Yeah you can mate.
HD5770 uses between 90 and 110W at full load.
So 2 of them = 220W, then add 100W on for DVD/HDD/Mobo/RAM/Fans MAX and about 140W MAX for your OC on CPU.
So looking at 460W MAX, more likely 400 - 425W.
Whats the combined 12V Rail output on your PSU? I looked it up its 580W.
Should be fine.
If I recall I think its only 600w for the 5850's?
So should be goode :D

+1, 600w psu is enough for two 5770's :thumb:
copied some of the power from another thread of mine, lets do the maths:
CPU (Full load) - 159w
2x Hard drives (Full load) - 13.6w (6.8w each)
Memory - 40w (approx 20w each)
Gfx (Full load) - 108W
5x case fans - 18w (approx 4w each)
Fan Controller - 10w
TOTAL - 348.6w
That should give me more than enough room for another 5770 and accomidate my dvd drive & wireless card that i dont know the output of.
If oyu add another 108W on then for the 2nd GPU to your 348W that gives 456W, not a bad guess at 460W.
Although i think your RAM estimate is high, didn't think your CPU would 160W.

Ye, my pc peeks at 325w when running 3dmark vantage, stalker benchmarks etc. so i could add another 4890, so say add 190w to 325= 515w so 600/650w psu would be fine for me and my card uses 80w more than 5770
Is it possible to crossfire different brands of the same GPU?
The Gigabyte one I have at the moment is one of the expensive ones on the market and theres other brands that are £20-£30 cheaper - could i still crossfire one of them with my current GPU?

yes you can
i have a gigabyte and a powercolor
Yeah as long as its the same amount of memory its fine.
this will be epic!! :D
Slowly coming over to the PC side for gaming are we?
hahaha perhaps,
To be honest im one of those people who has to have the best, im very competative - even with myself! Although my budget cant buy my the best PC, I intend to do the best I can that exceeds my needs 'just incase' a rainy day comes along :)

To be honest, i use my PC alot and im always sat on my desk chair whilst on my ps3 or watching a film anyway as i can multitask :) (in between games on mw2 or a boring part of a film i can check on here)

Don't forget that mobo will run the second card at 4x though if that has any bearing on your decision.
it doesnt mate, there both x16 :)
3 x PCI (32 bit)
2 x PCI-E 2.0 x16
1 x PCI-E x1

yeah that is the size of the slot but not the speed, this is copied from the info from a seller of your mobo (Aria don't seem to have that model)
Expansion Slots 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (*blue@ x16 mode, black@ x4 mode)

That's right, only the 880g asrock extreme, 790GX,890GX do both at 8x
looks like a new motherboard is on the cards before an investment in another 5770 then :(
