Wired and working but weird - emails but no websites!

Hi. Have Safecom SART 2-4115 wired adsl router. Four PCs connect via ethernet, 1 by USB. All have been working happily. Today, none of them could access any website. Status bar reads waiting for http://www.... and stays like that forever. However, ADSL light is on, all tests prove modem/router is working fine, email is sending and receiving fine, but no websites can be accessed. Swapped the router for my old modem and that connects fine to everything, which would point to the router but how could the router be connected for one thing and not the other. I'm on XP Pro with Orange broadband. Orange can't find the fault as far as they are concerned I have the internet, I can send/receive emails and with their modem I am on the web. They told me to go the Safecom. I did, they spent an hour doing tests and changing settings, rebooting, etc., and all points to the router is working, but still I can't get a website up, nor can any of the other machines on the network. I phoned Aria at 4.55pm but all lines were closed even though they're meant to be open until 5.30pm. now it is Friday, PC World don't do anything comparable and I have 4 frustrated and bored people who can't get online! If anyone has come across this or can shed light please let me know. many thanks. Tracy

That's a properly weird problem - I'd suggest trying a firmware upgrade - reset all the settings to factory and just see if you can batter it into submission...

Also - I thought Arias phone lines were only open 'til five?

Yea i would do what Sl4x0r said. If it still doesnt work then send the product back, thats if you havent had it for more than a year.

go to http://www.ADSLtech.com and go to the forum and make a topic about your problem, i think this forum was setup for Safecom Support because its full of Safecom Tech guys and they should finally be able to help you out.

Seems to me the problem is with the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) value, please change the MTU value from 1500 (default in almost all routers) to a down value like 1460 and then check the progress.

In there anything you changed to make this happen? Any little thing? Seems strange that it would just decide to block http.

Also, that usb connection is yucky! Any way you can make it ethernet?

Actually the problem is with ISP (Internet Service provider) as your ISP is not supporting a packet of maximum size (1500 Bytes) and the router is sending a packet of 1500 Bytes so if you alter the MTU value and set it to a lower value that your ISP can support then you'll be able to access websites.
