OK My current system is ok but i'm trying to decide if i should upgrade the cpu or not. Thinking of the E6600 but open to sugestions if there sensible.

My current specs are as follows....

Pentium D 820 clocked @ 3.36ghz
3gb 667 ddr2 Dual channel (2x1gb & 2x512mb)
Asrock Conroe945g-dvi Mobo
Nvidia 7800gt 256mb
320gb WD Cavier sata2 16mb cache
200gb Maxtor sata2 8mb cache

Vista Ultimate o/s

I currently use the system for the the odd bit of gamming (stalker, Footie Manager, lost planet), surfing the net, watching and converting the odd film. usual stuff really.

Without checking i think 6000 series core2's wont be compatible with that motherboard. But you should be ok with 4000 series and below. Basically iirc that mobo only supports upto 800fsb processors.

I think forgive me if i am wrong.

I checked the mobo and it's ok on the e6600 and supports 1066 fsb

Fair enough then, Asrock must have changed it updated the bios or something as it's listed as only supporting 4000 on Arias website.

Ive always been of the opinion that theres only really two good reasons to upgrade.

1. Somethings broken
which could result in either the individual component(s) being replaced, several components replaced, or entire system replaced.

2. Somethings not performing as required (eg. new game you want to play, and not having the specs needed)
which could result in either the individual component(s) being replaced, several components replaced, or entire system replaced.

:D

Now after some thought. i've decided i might want to upgrade my Graphics card also... but with a budget of £70-£80 i cant afford to go mad.

also i'm trying to decide if it may be worth going for the E4400 as opposed to the E6600 and spend more else where???

sensible suggetions only

Well Thought i'd give a quick update. i upgraded to the e4400 after all. but since purchasing Bioshock i've decided i defo want upgrade my graphics card. so still looking for sensible ideas to upgrade from my 7800gt 256mb with a bit of a stingy budget till i can sell my older media pc. i've got about £70-80 available. - - - - last update no longer need any suggestions i've managed to aquire a slightly older but more than adiquate graphics card which i think might just do the job... 7900gx2 1gb sli graphics card...
just hope my psu's upto the job. btw this card is huge. i've got a media centre pc smaller than this card.

Performace for your money wise, the X1950 is still the best card to own. Shame i cant get the XTX anymore, i guess it was too powerful.
