View Full Version : Samsung Galaxy best tarif and network?
as close to £20 a month as poss, with free phone, free MMS/video message, 500 x net mins and free browsing.
Got my Desire with Orange (returning customer)... threatened to leave and they dropped the contract to £17.50 pcm. Not sure of the minutes + texts cos I never go anywhere near the limits.
Had to pay £100 for the phone, but sold my old N85 to mazuma for £96 :D
It's well worth checking out Quidco and http://www.mobiles.co.uk/ for cashback and good deals :thumb:
i'll try and keep my O2 current retention deal, 1000 text/250 vid, 600 x net mins, but no free data - but £20 a month.
But would be interested in whats knocking around on 3 network , tmob etc.
T-Mobile £35 with 1200 mins, 500 txt's, unlimited internet free unlimited txt booster so inc's mms too. Also inc £50 accessory voucher at the mo too.
O2 - £40 with 900mins unlimited txts and unlimited data...
Three - £40 with 2k minutes  5000 txts, 1gb internet...
Vodafone - £30 with 600mins, unlimited txts, 1gb internet...
Orange... same as t-mobile minus the free booster and accessory voucher.
all on 24month contracts... and free phone.

oh that looks good, 24 months is the only worrying bit . ah but Ty's ones are 24 month.
May be worth paying a bit for phone and going 12 months, to not get the tie in.
How much browsing would 500mb get me on a galaxy?
How much browsing would 500mb get me on a galaxy?
That depends on your usage habits... I do 90% of all my browsing / internet related on wireless which doesn't count toward your 500MB.
I also have a button on the homescreen to turn on/off the mobile data so I don't get stung ;)
In 3 months I've used a TOTAL of 553MB on Wireless (free), and 127MB on mobile data... So even if I used solely mobile, based on my browsing habits I'd still be within limit - and that includes app downloads and updates too :)

I hate the idea of a 24 month contract.
when i was trying to get 3 to give me a competitive upgrade, they could only offer 24 months. i told them where they could put 24 months...
the thing is the guy in india was saying that they'd gone totally over to 24 month contracts, because "thats what their market research revealed that overwhelmingly customers wanted"
really??? people WANT to be locked to a phone for 2 full years rather tha 1 year or 18 months???
do you really think i'm stupid enough that a tiny nugget of social proof (without any actual proof) is going to make me WANT a 24 month contract...
sheesh
i would love a 12 month contract ideally!
i got stund with my current sony it started crashing after 12 months, sony tried numerous times to fix and found no fault, but the crashing is now part of my daily phone use, i've kind of got used to it, write a long text and CRASH!
as i'm tied in for 18 months, i wished i'd have sought a 12 month so i could have upgraded.
I'm not into running 2 contracts to get a new phone, even by lowering to cheapest tarif its wasted £

the downfall could be the MMS and video messages of which i sent a lot! they appear to be chargable and don't come out of free text - Tystar any ideas?
upto you mate. I went with the t-mobile offer. £5 extra a month but more mins, more texts....

I cant stand O2.
I never get any signal with them.
I get full 3G signal where I live with orange and about 2 bars of standard/3G signal with O2.

things not included in 3's tariffs:
MMS
premium texts
0800 numbers (so not only not free, but not included in minutes)
0845 numbers
(basically anything that's not a standard city code land line)
probably a few other things apart from the usual international calls/roaming calls etc.
they used to do a thing where if you went to a country where there was 3 (italy in my case) then whenever you were on their '3' you could use voice and data minutes from your allowance. they stopped it tho... :(
tystar don't need more mins/text but 0.25p a MMS would ruin me, i prob send a good 5 a day = £37.50 extra a month agrhrhrg
will look into the tmob tarif in more detail, if £5 extra saves me £37 in MMS its worth it - and phone free? so £50 / 24 = £2.08 saving a month on phone price.
and dont forget the free £50 accessory.. :D
does t mob deffo give FOC mms?
Don't do it! Once a phone gets out the door Samsung forget it ever existed. MY i8510 had some key flaws and once it was finished they have never touched it. Not one single new firmware release, no correction for a faulty stub file with google maps (a 2 min job for their engineers). Other people with different models will tell you the same thing. They just move on once a phone is built. With a phone as complex as the Android you need at least some staff continue to be involved. Have a read round the Samsung Reviews on the web and you will see other people say the same.
Ive been arguing with Three over a new phone, i smashed mine against a wall in a fit of rage a few months back and had to go with t-mobile and the tocco lite on an 18-month contract. 100 mins/100 texts UL net, 20 p/m but 16 months cashback so equivalant price of 2.22 a month :D
Hoping to get the Galaxy S on Three in November and have my 7 quid loyalty discount applied aswell, dont want to be paying more than about 20 total for both contracts
I got mine on t mob, £150 for phone and £15 a month, unlimited internet, 300 free texts a month and 300 mins, for an extra fiver a month you can have unlimited texts.

While this is completely true with my i8910 as well, the user community keep it going and I should imagine the Galaxy S will get ongoing support. Samsung didn't want to bother with symbian (the leading os!!) so I imagine by dumping it they can concentrate on Android and WM7.
From mobiles.co.uk you can get it free on Orange panther, 2 year contract, 1200 mins, unlimited texts and data usage, 20ppm after redemption.
