Hi fellow forum users, I built a system from parts bought from Aria about 18 months ago, including a POWERCOLOR R41BG-ND3 Radeon X700 and an MSI K8T Neo-V MS7032.

The Radeon is dead, tested in another system, it stops the motherboard from posting. Another known good agp graphics card was fitted and it starts to post and load windows but the monitor goes blank and says it is in standby mode on screen.

The system runs fine with a pci graphics card fitted, so my question is could the mobo be damaged on the agp bus only, knowing that pci is also controlled by the same north bridge host controller?

Thanks in advance...

Im guessing that no drivers are installed for that graphics card saying you carnt see what your doing and im guessing the old graphics card are stil installed. Have you tried going into Safe Mode and seeing if it will display a screen?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply Micky007

The dead X700 does not allow a system to post verified by lack of video and the usual beeps from start up even though the fans all run as if preparing to post.

So it gets nowhere near loading the operating system...

If no drivers for the graphics were installed it would just use Microsoft's drivers (assumes Windows XP or newer) or just revert to VGA. You'd still get some kind of output.

Thanks Hosser

You are correct, no output from either connectors on the card, used a converter for the digital output to test it.

As I stated a known good card was fitted and it did post but failed before reaching XP...

That card was refitted to its own system and works correctly, making me assume the mobo has a fault too.

I think what micky ment is the wrong drivers are installed for the \"new\" graphics card you are trying in your \"dead\" pc.

Try booting into safe mode and uninstalling the drivers for the x700 and rebooting normally.

Or uninstall the x700 drivers whilst booting with the pci card then install the new agp card and install the correct drivers.

Both the dead x700 and the test card are both Radeons so the drivers are compatible, XP also handles graphics drivers fairly well.

The system does not get to load XP, so drivers are not the problem, I think?

The X700 was fitted into another system as were most other parts except the cpu and mobo, being the only socket 754 hardware availible!

Uninstall them anyway just because they are both ati doesn't necessarily mean they will work, unless its another x700.

Just spotted a problem, the +3.3 rail voltage is .58 volts, I think I have my answer!

i think you may have solved your problem there, try a different PSU first

No joy, Xilence 480W Gaming PSU tried and just the same.

New parts being ordered soon....

Voltage regulators on the motherboard are shot, would be my guess.
