Right I bought a 9800 gt because i got it from a friend for £30, which is a pretty good deal ( I think? )
Anyway, under full load it gets up to like 90 oC... this seems a bit high ?
I can not fit any more fans in my system due to it being a mATX case, i have 2 80mm akasa fans in my case.
The card is a year old if that helps :P

The thermal paste may need replacing and if replaced with good stuff, could lower the temps. Also an aftermarket cooler may help.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yeah i ordered some arctic silver 5 last night, that should do the trick right?
Also, about the aftermarket cooler. I can't find a decent one to fit my 9800. They all seem really expensive. Any recommendations?
Have you adjusted the fan using a app such as rivatuner or MSI afterburner?
Also which cooler do you have on it at the moment?
I reckon it could also be the fact you're using an Matx case with 80mm fans.

Yeah i've been using rivatuner and when i'm in a game i put the fan to 100%, i get 90fps maximum in just cause 2 running at high settings @ 1920 x 1080 res.
Is this a dangerous temperature to be running at? I heard 9800gt's are designed to run this hot for long periods?
Also i have the stock cooler on my card, here is the exact card i have:

Yeah, I set my fan to 100% too when I had my 8800gt (upgraded to gtx275 recently)
My cooler was one of these which worked very well - cool and pretty quiet. I think you're is not exhausting the air which just circulates in the small space.

I'm sure the temps are okay, but personally I'd try to keep it below 85 degrees or ideally 80 degress or under.

How hot did you 8800gt get at 100% fan speed?

Try running with the case side off and/or blowing a domestic fan into the side of the case
I'll need to check some screenies I got on my rig at home. From what I remember, it use to run up to 80 odd degrees. I'd always keep an eye on the temps, but I ran it on 1680*1050 until earlier this year when I got a full HD screen. Ran all games on 1920*1080. Will check back and let you know of the different temps and games/ benching tools ran and also room temps (noted these too in the file name :D)

Won't i get dust build up if i leave the side off?
Also I don't have a domestic fan, any other options? xD
How much room is in there? You could always cut a hole for a fan in the side panel if you feel confident enough to try.
Any chance you can take pic of your setup or list them?
Sorry my bad! In fact my 8800gt had a different cooler (This one (http://techgage.com/reviews/palit/8800gt_1gb/palit_8800gt_01_thumb.jpg)). It was my 9600gt which had the cooler I linked earlier. Still they are similar in performance I think
Will still get you the screenies later tonight though.

Anyone?
Upload them to some webspace/imageshack/flickr etc and then paste the link. Theyhave to be hosted somewhere first.

They have to be hosted somewhere, ie photobucket, picassa etc
Then you can use image url
Yeah you need to put it on a page such as http://www.upload3r.com/ then it gives you the forum code to paste in here.

Case doesn't look too bad for airflow.
As a suggestion, I would change the 80mm fans to 92mm or if possible 120mm.
I've also found some pics where the 9600gt has been put through some testing although it seems I have less saved pics than I thought.

8800GT single slot are known for being hot, replace TIM and dust out. then i would just leave it at that.

As per rig in sig, but I've got 120mm fans which seems to help a lot. this was how my rig looked about a month ago, but since then I've upgraded to a gtx275 (which is dual slot). Temps are still around 75-85 degrees when gaming.

lols my 4870 used to idle at 60 and get to 90, put some AS5 on it and went to 45 idle 80 load :D (im not lieing)
it does the trick with gpu's the thermal compund they put thier is garbage.
the only gpu with good pre-applied thermal compound is probably the asus ares 5870X2 xD

I literally ordered some AS5 last night anyway, so that should be here in a few days. The card is a year old and the paste looks like its warn away. I'll try the AS5 and then post the temps here. :D

You could get some of the ic24 thermal paste (http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25407&highlight=ic24) if there are any left. ;)

might be wort forking out £10 or so on an akasa vortexx cooler, i bought a 2nd hand 4870 (possibly 4850) and when i fired it up it ran VERY hot, 20 mins later ( i had a vortexx gathering dust) it was running 30 or so degrees cooler.

30 oC cooler, that's pretty good. I'll have a look mate cheers .
yeah think it was running 80-90c or something nuts like that, stuck the vortexx on and it was seriously cooler, could have just been dried out crusty thermal compound but the stock cooler was LOUD so killed 2 birds etc.

I just looked for the vortexx cooler and I don't think it's compatible with the 9800gt
