View Full Version : Cable Router
Afternoon Guys and Gals
I have a Netgear WNR854T Rangemax Wireless router. and looking for a Cable router to connect this too
any suggestions ?
What are you trying to connect up? seems strange they your connecting a router to another router
well when i recieved the router
(from a compertition) my dad (a Bt Engeneer) seems to think that its a wireless switch connection from one cable router to this via a ethernet cable.

nope, you dont need another router, your netgear router plugs into your cable modem then you can connect to the router either through wireless(with a dongle) or through an ethernet cable.
who is your internet provider?
well i have a bt home hub but we have a 2nd line for my dads work

mate am lost what are you trying to do? extend the wireless network ?
so your trying to connect this to your bt homehub?
lol ok
i'll start again
the router i won here at aria, doesnt have a Line in Connetcion, just 1 ethernet port and 4 lan ports as well as the power supply.
looking at the diagrams on the box you need a modem/router connected to the internet, then an ethernet cable from that to the rangemax.
i cant use the BT home hub as the wireless signal will interfear with the Hub, but we have 2 internet line in our house.
so i'll be using the other one.
ok is the other line BT as well? need to know so we can suggest what modem to get or does this second line already have a modem connected to it

this is a cable router for virginmedia/ntl broadband
on cable broadband you can only use the modem supplied by the cable company in the uk this is Virgin so you plug the router into that via the ethernet and plug all the computers into the lans
if you don't have cable broadband its useless to you
Right guess I'll have to sell it then as we don't have virgin or ntl lol so guess I'll have to fleabay it lol unless some one wants to buy it here ?

put it up here first mate save all the ebay costs
for sale section with a photo with the date and your name in it
If it's for virgin media I have one of the new 50meg routers - I ended up paying for it after moving house and thinking I had lost it - it turned up in a box somewhere, so I legally own it now. Open to offers if you want it ;)
nah its ok lol
we have sky + lol
and bt vison lol
