£dmark is cool, i have a cracked version on my pc
Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net) - Awesome graphics manipulator, most of the features of PhotoShop with none of the bloat - comes in at under a meg.
CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) - Cleans your system of all that crap build-up.
foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org) - Great media player
Opera (http://www.opera.com) - Fantastic web-browser
µTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com) - My BitTorrent client of choice
Those are my favourite and most-commonly-used applications. All working on Windows Vista x86 just fine.

why get a third party media player or web browser for windows? kind of redundant.
azureus.sourceforge.net Azureus bittorrent client (requires java, multiplatform)
Google Earth, google it, now with linux version
VLC media player, tiny, plays almost anything, useful for stuff that WMP doesn't play like .avi .divx .xvid quicktime and possibly .rm (also multiplatform)

Redundant?
Windows Media Player 11 is barely a program. It's an application hiding behind 50 megs of user-interface. It's so bloated.
And as for IE7, standards compliance anyone? =/
Also I hate VLC... I prefer to install the codecs I wish to use (XviD, DivX, AC3, Haali, FFDShow etc.) then install Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/) to play my files.

BS Player, i like it :) (http://www.bsplayer.org/)
TrueCrypt, to hide your porn :P (http://www.truecrypt.org/)
Gigaget, I've downloaded it today, so i don't know if it's any good (http://www.gigaget.com/)
Firefox
Media Player 11 + Tag & Rename
Flashget.
Off thw top of my head:
Hijack This (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php)
combined with:
http://hjt.networktechs.com/
Is great for cleaning out your computer of unwanted nasties, and keeping a lid on those pesky startup programmes.
CDburnerXP (http://cdburnerxp.se/) is a really good free disc burning programme.
WinRar (http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm&sa=X&oi=smap&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&usg=AFQjCNHeNCAfXvz1tL0cEHhWZbglU3JmNQ) For (un)packing RAR, Zip and other files.
K-Lite codec pack, RealAlternative, Quicktime Alternative, Media Player Light (http://www.codecguide.com/) all from the same site, play practically anything on the internet for free! This is the only set of codecs I have ever needed to download! It includes a codec for playing DVD's in Windows Media Player too.
Might post more what I think of them. We should make a useful apps thread or something :P
