View Full Version : DDR2 Prices
Hi, Does anyone know whether DDR2 price are going to drop or increase?
Bound to go up I suspect due to DDR3 being mainstream. 2nd hand should get some bargains though hopefully. I suspect.
Expect prices of new ddr2 to go up in further in future.

Agreed. Just like DDR1 did when DDR2 came out.
DDR may have increased when DDR2 came out but it plateaud off and stabilised and I can see the same thing happening to current DDR2 prices.
Thanks for the replies. so to sell is the best time now or later? and to buy is the best time now or later?
Thanks
To buy DDR2 i would get it now, to sell DDR2 i would sell it after Xmas when the next set of DDR3 chipsets come out.
Will be less and less DDR2.

hmm, i see. but to buy later on any idea on how much more expansive it would be compared to now
Maybe £100 for 4GB.
As it gets rarer and rarer it'll keep going up until it gets obsolete.
I dissagree. Not many people have made the switch to the new expensive intel platform (well in percentage terms) and there was an article on dram prices falling again recentloy that I read (at the INQ so must be true! ;))
I think they are going to fall back to prices a year ago and stay there for a year. They better 'cos I have money on it (spreadbetting ;))

I doubt anyone actually makes any DDR2 anymore.

DRAMexchange noted that Kingston Technology recently adjusted upward its prices for DDR2 modules, due to a limited supply of the chips due to major chipmakers moving to scale up their DDR3 production.
An that's bit what causes price raises, supply an demand at work limited supply means higher prices, simply cause they moving their production lines off DDR2 an on to DDR3.

sorry but your completely mistaken. DDR2 is already becoming rare and some companies arent even making it anymore.
Use this to track the prices (http://www.dramexchange.com/) :)

Also interested, how much pal?
Funny this. I was actually looking to double the RAM in my pc 4GB just aint enough right now. So i looked at buying the kit i have already "OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Platinum 4GB"
But it's just as expensive as when i first bought it. So im just weighing up my options.
Do i get the RAM at £70 odd quid, or do i tough it out for a bit and upgrade CPU, RAM, MOBO plus an extra GPU when i have the money.
Monkey, Same here. I have 4gb and an thinking of doubling it. But as you say it's also tempting to hold off and go for the whole renew upgrade.
I'm still deciding.

+1 that's what i'm going to do, originally was going to buy a 1055t but thought its not worth it as my whole pc could do with a upgrade. so i bought the phenom 2 x2 555 (unlocked :D) and will upgrade everything within 1-2 years. plus considering that you can get 4GB ddr3 for £58, it's not worth buying ddr2 unless you want 8gb and don't want to upgrade your cpu/mb for a few years.
