Umm had no clue where to put this lol and silly question most likely.

I will be having 2 23" monitors on my desk which means i won't have room for my case (storm scout) so i will have to be it elsewhere. Its a bottom mounted PSU so the fan is pointing down to the ground. As far as i can remember there isn't even a dust filter (might be, really can't remember) I know when i dusted of the case a few days ago there was a fair bit of dust at the bottom.

To the point anyway.... will it matter if the case is therefore on the floor/carpet as atleast on my desk it stands up better then it would if it was on the floor...
Matter as in safe/healthy?

This really doesn't make sence but i hope you get the generally idea lol

Thanks :D:redface:

what type of floor do you have? wooden or carpet?, because if its carpet then i wouldnt advise it :| you even got a small table or cabinet or something to sit at the side of your desk so you can put it on it :)?

Carpet

stick it on a board on the floor

Will need to look around to see what I have. Did a bit of measuring last night and it might just fit if the left monitor is at edge of desk, then right monitor and then the case on the right about an inch hanging off (the case wouldn't fall off :p)

on the floor

thats bloody helpfull lol.

anyway, if you have a bottom mounted PSU DONT put it on carpet, if you dont, and the bottom of the case is just plain without any air holes you can.

Pop to Homebase or B&Q and grab a shelf (the ones that are just a plank of wood and require seperate fixings), stick this on the floor and case on that, its what I did with my CM690 when I had it.

Two bricks, or the equivelent of, underneath at the front and back to give the fan a couple of inches (at least) of clearance. If it's a carpet then I would put astrip of something clean right underneath the whole base so you aren't blowing dust up into the machine.

Alternatively, and this is what I would do, take the fan off that mounting and add it as a second intake fan or failing that outtake.

The problem is that the closer to the floor it is, the more likely the hot air is going to bounce off the ground and be blown back into the case.

You might want to read up on cooling and airflow. There is some debate about where in general to stick fans, but I generally go with 1 intake and 2 outtake, all 12cm.

alot of you said don't stick it on the carpet- why is that?

Because the carpet will block any airflow thats supposed to come through the grill.

Although i'd doubt it would matter too much if the PSU was slightly raised inside the case, as most are, just be a little bit warmer using the air form the case.

? Are you joking? Where's the air going to go if the fan is blocked by the carpet?

Also, If the air exit is too close to the floor then it is going to blow back up into the machine and disrupt the normal airflow from front to rear, and your machine is going to get hot.

I've never heard of a fan on the bottom of a machine - seems really odd to me.

Most new cases have a bottom mounted PSU.

Personally i don't like pc's on the floor, far to much dust gets sucked into a floor mounted pc, far better, imho, to either stick it on the desktop if it WILL fit, or get a small table as already suggested.

If it goes on the floor you will probably be cleaning it out two or three times as often.

Ok thanks :) Well the case is only a tiny bit of the floor on the desk so with it being on carpet that won't be good. Don't exactly feel like going to buy some small table really as i haven't got to much room and want the case to go under the desk (MIKAEL ikea one)

Surely though if its just on something like a bit of wood and its standing up like it is on my desk it would be fine?
Otherwise i put it so the back panel is on the carpet lol but that's stupid!

Will be nice if i can just about fit both monitors on the desk and the case, though one of my speakers (logitech Z4) might be blocked off though i can just put that on top of the case or something probably lol.
