View Full Version : Budget Home/Game/Office PC
Not sure on this one. I remember chatting to DT about this one with a cheap PC and an SSD.
https://www.aria.co.uk/WishList/xsRoL9WWk8ya4qMQqWExrQ,,
It's not the most amazing PC you'll ever see and the case is a maybe. This would retail for £380.99 Inc. Windows 7 and a Graphics Card would be an also purchase option.
The board offers SATA 3/USB 3, and onboard graphics. The new X2 260 would be overclocked to 3.5GHz on the stock cooler.
This is no definite by all means. It just got me thinking how to incorporate a decent SSD into a low cost system for an OS installation. 30GB is on the small side.
The idea behind it is the SSD. Having this CPU with an SSD vs say an i5 750 with no SSD would feel about the same when using the PC daily. It's about bringing the performace experience of a high cost machine like an i5 or i7 to a low cost price package.

It could work mate but im a little unsure on the whole product to be completely honest.
The CPU is fantastic but a 3.4ghz overclock on an 240 would save a few quid.
Also.. is 1600mhz ram really needed as the base clock of 200 wouldnt be available at 3.4-3.5ghz.... using some 1333mhz ram would probably better especially as you have some at sub £60 at the moment. Youll not notice much of a hit but an overall saving of around £30 isnt to be grumbled at when your not likely to see much of a speed hit if any.
You may be able to bring the price closer to £350 and as such could include windows for closer to £400.

I'd rather have the 440 3Ghz triple core thats £1 more.
And the 64GB SSD thats £12 more.
Makes it alot more attractive for £13 extra and its still under £399
You could swap the Corsair for the OCZ Gold and save the £13 there. Or keep it as extra to play with.
I think its better value for money @ £400.

not a bad start that, a nice little budget office machine, doesn't need horsepower to do what it needs to, the odd occasional blip of cpu usage to open outlook/thunderbird.
Can I mention the Dell Vostro low end business machines. That's what I think you need to aim at, but the SSD gives a huge increase in day to day productivity.

Don't get me wrong i agree BUT the fact the cpu is overclocked would possibly put a lot of businesses off, those that aren't really into overclocking would "assume" overclocked = much less lifespan and unstable. Business pcs have to be 100% rock solid, and whilst an overclocked cpu can be some assume they aren't.
I know our IT buyer here wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Very true and I agree, an overclock to a business is a no show in most cases however Rawz has pointed a 3.5ghz clock in the OP which includes an overclock over the 3.2ghz standard hence when I mentioned it. No OC would still be plenty quick enough though especially with that ssd.
Andy
No love for my extra core and larger SSD for £2 cheaper?
:cry

Lots of love mate! Im guessing the profit margins are smaller on that config perhaps?

definately agree mate, i have a few friends that dont "trust" overclocking as alot of the population dont understand how to do it properly as it would undoubtidly shorten the lifespan of the CPU if overclocked incorrectly.
for an office PC - id say its a bit of overkill, but as a home/gaming rig its more than adequate :)

That looks better mate :thumb:
Yea, when i posted this i saw the X3 and though knows!! Anywho. We'll be looking into this over the weekend. :)
399.99 INC system attached.
Tri core, SATA3/USB3, 40GB Intel SSD as a boot (before you suggest 64GB Kingston, don't as they won't be here long).
The only thing that worries me about having an ssd & hd is a lot of people will get confused when the ssd fills up & they did not realise they had to use the hd for storage. Aria could maybe put a little pamphlet in to explain in plain English how to install programs etc.

On the other hand, I've heard some negative reviews of Dino PC....?
£600 for that seems a tad overpriced to me. Ok it includes windows but gts250 is quite an old gfx card, what psu? And why a tv tuner? Is that how you specced it?
I am guessing they are charging a premium for the warrenty too.

Looking pretty good. I'd put a disclaimer on the system page though and explain it is a simple system and not ideal for storing hours of video/loads of photos. Can imagine it would outperform like everything else at the price point though, nice work again :thumb:
