View Full Version : Intel E4400 but what mobo?
Having recently decided to ditch my old Abit NF7 and AMD 3000 mobile chip I need to get new gear.
I have been looking at the new Intel E4400 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E4400+2GHz+%28775%29+?productId=2 7049) as I've heard it over clocks like crazy but I can't seem to pick a mobo. I was looking at the Asus P5B deluxe but its not in stock.
Any ideas on Mobo and memory would be great. Been away from the OC for a while as you can tell from my old gear.
Thanks in advance.
Also if you can think of anyway to squeeze more juice out of current setup please let me know :)
I'd take a look at any of the P35 motherboards;

If you want something budget but potent;

Thanks for the advice.
Seems that the Asus P5K (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/ASUS+P5K+Intel+iP35+Socket+775+Motherboard+?produc tId=27298) should do the job without issue.
just need to find some memory and I'm off.
Thanks again :)

and this is meant to be amazing too;

Thanks again but I fear unless I rob my post office that memory maybe out of reach.
What sort of budget are you looking at?
Post offices are a bad idea - they don't handle Giro cheques or pensions anymore (they're paid directly into peoples banks) so they don't actually that much hard cash - try your local supermarket checkout instead - end of the day - nice full tills - you'd get enough to buy a quad core.*
*I in no way condone theft, burglary, assualt or pillage of any kind - irrespective of how cool I look in a balaclava...
Wasn't looking to spend that much on memory but I guess thats what credit cards are for :P
Budget I guess is around £350 but I'm squeezing a PSU, case and new GC in too.
Current shopping list is:
ASUS P5K mobo (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/ASUS+P5K+Intel+iP35+Socket+775+Motherboard+?produc tId=27298)
Intel E4400 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Core+2+Duo+E4400+2GHz+%28775%29+?productId=2 7049)
Coolermaster Centurion 5 Case (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Coolermaster+Centurion+5+Silver?productId=16357)
Enermax 400w PSU (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/200w+to+449w/Enermax+Liberty+400W+Modular+PSU?productId=19633)
Sitting around £245 with that lot. Could push to £400 at a push I reckon.
Thanks again for the help.

What graphics card are you looking for??? It's going to be very tight to get even a half decent card and some RAM on top of your shopping list...

\"Supports Intel Pentium 4 / Prescott (LGA 775) processor. Supports Intel P4 Prescott CPU up to 3.8GHz above, and intel P4 Prescott Celeron CPU\"
Doesn't - I think you're just being silly... stop being silly you big silly...
I think I have the final build sorted.

£411.54 total price.
Memory has had great write ups in several magazines and the GC should cover my needs for the time being.
If you can think of anything better for around the same price I'd be interested and grateful.
Thanks :)
