To be honest, i'd ditch the raptor drive, and buy something of a bigger capacity for the same price.. unless you are benchmarking, you wont really notice a difference - not one worth the price premium anyway...

I wish I hadn't bought my Raptor now - I recently bought a larger, \"slower\" 500GB Western Digital disk, and guess which one's faster? ;P

And the Raptor is noisy too. Don't buy one.

Ive noticed HUGE speed increases from my raptor, from boot up to photoshop to game loading times.

If youve got the money get one :)

Buy a 2nd 250gb for £35ish for your main storage drive, vids, mp3s etc.

Ive got the 150gb gaming version

I strongly disagree. My 500GB WD disk is faster. The only things the Raptor does better are noise making and heating up.

I sincerely doubt that the Samsung 500GB drive has anywhere near the same seek time as the 10KRPM Raptor - it may well move big chunks of data about quicker - higher MBPS - but for seek time (lots of little files - booting windows, etc) the Raptor is unbeatable.

With respect to your power supply - I just got a PC Power & Cooling 750W Quad and it's superb - doesn't weigh as much as the 460W Tagan it replaces - but it runs a lot cooler and is quiet. The only gripe I've got is that there are a hell of a lot cables and it was quite tricky to fit it into the caddy in my stacker - it works incredibly well though.

Hosser id send your raptor back, sounds faulty!

Have you got any benchmarks showing the 500gb is faster? :?

No dude, it is NOT faulty. The seek time is faster, but the actual throughput is slower.

And I did bench them both in HD Tach, but I can't be arsed to do it again and upload screenshots... Just take my word for it. <_<

There is more to hard drives than just sheer data throughput and the Raptor has a different objective in mind than any of the bulk storage drives - it's a bit like the download speed of your internat connection - it may well be massive but if you've got a big ping to match then you ain't playing online games...
I like my Raptor - the new ones are pretty quiet (or at least mine is in my Coolermaster Stacker - my mates got a 74GB raptor in a lian li and it's crazy loud) and they're a good drive to have Windows and software installed on - to have it as your only drive would be silly though - it is expensive in terms of £££ per GB.

I have windows, games and software on mine and it is far faster than any IDE or SATA 2 drive ive had.
