View Full Version : Spec me some upgrades (£250-£300)
Been talking for a while about getting some serious upgrades sorted and after this month (settling a loan) i`ll have a fair bit of money to play about with and buy some upgrades.
My current spec is in my sig and the only thing that will change is the memory as im buying 4GB of OCZ gold 1333Mhz off Nick.
I use it primarily for video editing and multimedia, but dab in and out of gaming on it as i have my PS3.
Any ideas?

if you got the money of course :D
ive read the max overclock on that CPU is around 3.6/3.7 though?
Martin got 4Ghz out of one.
Why not switch to Intel?

well, i suppose he could do that, though hes be stuck forever, because intel are releasing new 1155 and 2011 scket soon (silly intel).
if he went to am3 he has the futurproof socket because he can get the new 8-core bulldozers, when they come out.

I thought it had been stated that the 8 core bulldozers are not going to be compatible with current am3 boards.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Is it not better to have 1600Mhz memory if your going to be doing a bit of overclocking just for a little extra headroom?.
Ofc that's an awesome memory deal.

no, the 8 core bulldozers will, work, they be on the am3r2 socket, (revision 2) so i guess am3+.
according to this at least:

maybe its wrong, who knows, lol.

Yeah i thought its AM3r2 or something for Bulldozer

Yeah it would but the 1600mhz is more expensive for little or no gain.

im trying to twist Rawz's arm at the min to lower the price of the 1600Mhz stuff to a close range of the 1333Mhz gear - seems a bit more future proof.
Im thinking of a memory upgrade, higher PSU and CPU?
graphics will come in a seperate thread once all has been bought :)
