Hi all,

I need some advice. I recently upgraded my comp with a 4200x2 @2600(939 Toledo). I also ordered an arctic cooler 64 (something like that), which was too big and bulky to attach so I had to make do with a standard cooler (With arctic silver compound) the prob is it's running a little hot. (47-52 idle - 55-60 - under load) I don't know if this is too hot but I had read that these cpu's run quite cool. What I was looking for is a recommendation on cooler that?s similar in size to a standard cooler (and as easy to attach)

TIA

Took it off and put the arctic cooler back on, well worth another try fitting this one to your board, what board do u have ???

Thanks for the replies,

I have an asrock duel sata 939 board.(Agp + PCI) The arctic 64 was hitting a heatsink on the motherboard and i didn't want to push it. It was the size of the thing that caused the prob :0(. It's good to hear that the temps are not too bad though although I would like them to come down a bit so I can overclock a little more :0) Thats why I'm looking for a smaller sized cooler. How big is the one you suggested?

Edit, just check the dimensions :0)

ps. it may even be smaller than the zalman as it has such a big copper flower on the zalman

I have one of these for my Athlon 64 X2 3800+ which I'm running at 2.64GHz:

Unfortunately I got mine before Aria stocked them, and paid alot more... <_<

Great price, great heatsink. There's even a newer model with spiffy special effects here:

The temperature's you're describing don't sound overly problematic. However, it's always a good idea to analyse case design, and perhaps think about airing the case itself, rather than concentrating on just dissipating heat from the CPU.

After all, most if not all the heat being taken off the CPU has to go somewhere, and if it's into the case enclosure, it's just going to stay there.

We recently modified a customer's machine to include a tiny silent running exhaust fan replacing one on the rear of the case. We also relocated a hard drive inside to allow a better route for cool air being drawn in from the bottom of the case.

The result was a dramatic difference in cooling. The heat being drawn out was enough to warm their office on a cold morning.
