And Im biased to the Galaxy :D

Your best bet is go have a play with them both. The Galaxy on paper is the more powerful of the 2 and has the better screen, Not tried the call quality on the HTC so cant comment but the galaxy is better than my old iPhone. The OS is the same on both as froyo isn't officially out on both yet.

So as I say go try them both out and see which you prefer.

the galaxy s is a far newer phone. the desire has been out for a long time now. Its a good phone but the next generation of android phone are just round the corner and the desire will be out of date by Christmas unfortunately.
the amoled screen on the galaxy is the definate win factor placed side by side its like SD and HD

a no brainer really the Galaxy S win hands down.

also go look at the benchmarks for the desire it is 1/4 of the speed of the nexus that has the same CPU so there is something wrong with them IMO.

personally id get the Nexus One http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/google-nexus-one

If i hadnt already as its :
the most powerful
the same AMOLED screen as the galaxy s
the phone all the android updates and apps are made for so you get them first ive had 2.2 for 3 months and ill get 3.0 gingerbread before most phones get 2.2
It the only phone google are ever going to make so wont be eclipsed in a few months like all the others will

I think the Nexus (and desire) has the same screen as my current Samsung I8910. The Galaxy S has a 4" Super amoled screen, which is even better. The amoled on my year old I8910 is fantastic so the Galaxy S must win out. And apparently the desires are coming with different screens because there's a shortage. Samsung seem to be supporting the Galaxy S better than some previous models and it is getting Froyo soon or already I believe. It's my next phone I think.

Ok a few things about the Galaxy.....

Its the most powerful android currently out not the Nexus one. Have a look at the benchmark thread to see that. 2.2 is due out september. The cpu is the same as the iPhone 4's but as its made by samsung its made better use of in the Galaxy is the only android phone currently out that will support android 3.0 due to the screen size and power.

The bad point it has no camera flash and some people think it feels plasticky which I dont tbh.

THats so not true where do you get this Info??

the desire was £200 cheaper than the Nexus and doenst have the screen or the Noise cancelling mics or voice control or the sat nav but it doesn have a fm radio the nexus doesnt, the screens in all 3 are totally different Only the Nexus One and samsung have an AMOLED screen they are different sixes but the same organic matter LED which is a bit mind blowing.

Also i just read that the galaxy s has faulty GPS and it will be months for a fix..

Id actually wait or try get an american phone like the droid X or the EVO because we are just on the verge of changin to the next gen of android handsets and your going to be very annoyed when your phone is updated and you still got 20 months on your contract.

I have heard about that but thats a software issue which is dependent on the f/w your running. You can always flash it if you do have a issue which is as simple as doing a mobo flash.

As i said my I8910 has an amoled and I seem to remember reading the nexus one had a similar screen in somewhere ages ago. I just assumed for the desire because holding my omniahd next to a mates desire they look pretty similar (identical size). The Galaxy S is Super AMOLED, which sounds better to me although I haven't seen it in the flesh. From what I read it rates better than the Iphone 4 screen.

ok Screens.....

Nexus One
Display 3.7 inch (diagonal) widescreen WVGA AMOLED touchscreen
800 x 480 pixels

Desire
Display Type: Size: 3.7 inches Resolution: 480 X 800 WVGA

Galaxy S
DISPLAY Type: Super AMOLED Size 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches

All the same pixels, Nexus & Desire same size but Nexus has a AMOLED screen Desire doesn't, Galaxy Has the Super AMOLED which is better than the other 2 and larger screen.

Hope that put's everything to bed on that....

Ah true guess that's why so many get wrong specs :p well not wrong as such just missing key aspect like amoled

tystar
14-08-10, 20:07
Everywhere else does mention it being AMOLED but as I took the specs from each of the manufactures websites I didn't put it was because they didn't.

TBH the Desire and the Nexus One are pretty much the same phone underneath anyway.

The Galaxy S is on it's own regards screen and power but it'll come down to personal preference. Some people don't like the menu system on the Galaxy as it's similar to the iPhone's but that was why I went for it as I came from a iPhone I liked that system.

As Senty Said:

Cant go wrong there.

Samsung make ALL AMOLED screens they own the technology the nexus and the desire have samsung screens fitted and they didnt give HTC better ones than their own flagship phone

the galaxy has the best screen its brighter and more vivid etc.. its super amoled not just amoled... they have improved the technology slightly.

the desire has a fault on the original screen so there are some that got made with the nexus one amoled screen but which one you would get if you ordered a desire is random.

I really dont see the desire as an option as it is a value version of the nexus HTC made them both and the desire was $200 cheaper on release.

its the samsung or the google samsung very slightly better hardware but worse software and slower updates,

youll always be one android version behind the nexus , thats the single most important to me :)

not having to root your phone to get froyo then gingerbread and still having the warranty on your £600 phone is a mighty good reason to get the nexus.

No Need to root to update the F/W on the galaxy btw.

The galaxy is the next phone behind the nexus to get the official release updates so it's not that long to wait and the nexus gets them first as it's the official google phone so they obviously release the software on there first....

Not gonna say get 1 or the other because there all good phones just get the one you like best....

Nexus One - Official software first
Desire - HTC Sense
Galaxy S - Most Powerful - Best Screen
