I can get either the MSI GTX 460 or the Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB GDDR5 OC Edition for the same price. Is it worth having the Gigabyte over the MSI.

I have the GTX460 768Mb and so far playing BFBC2 maxed out on 1920 x 1080 it hasn't used over 712Mb.

If one is a 1Gb card get that one, it's not just memory that is different, the 1Gb cards are more powerfull!

Yup..the 1GB cards have a greater memory bus bandwidth which equals more performance. It's not that much better than the 768Mb version, but at the same price it's a no brainer...get the 1GB

(although if you need a quiet solution the MSI Cyclone is the better card - but both will be loud after a good thrashing and the fan kicks in)

1GB version also has more ROP's IIRC, so it isn't just an extra 256MB of RAM thats different between them.

they also have more rops. iirc about a third more

Definitely 1GB, I have the Palit 1GB. It's fantastic, maxes everything I've played. I seem to remember a review which said the Palit cards were a decent bit ahead of the others, hence why I went with them.

definatelly 1DB, especially if you have higher resolution monitor, will help!

If you're going for a reference design get the cheapest they all OC the same.

Are there any reference cards out there? LOL..they all look like they've been fiddled with from what I've glanced.

Reference is one fan in the centre of the card - obviously the board itself could differ but thats probably a relatively safe reference point for you.

I'd go for the Asus GTX 460 1GB

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/Nvidia+GTX+400+Series/Asus+GTX+460+90-C1CPK5-L0UAY0BZ+?productId=41164

Decent warranty - and usually decent quality

Plus with the shroud not making contact with the PCB its going to chuck some of the hot air out into the case.

I know they all do, but this will put alot more into the case.
