View Full Version : Bottleneck?

I'm considering getting another HD 5770 so I have enough horsepower for eyefinity but I'm just thinking will my E5300 bottleneck it at all?
My board supports CF (albeit when it had this logo):
http://www.asus.com/websites/global/products/m4cR4iaPdABNLtQa/Crossfire_new.gif
The PCI-E lanes run at 16x or 8x/8x however the lanes are only PCI-E 1.
Will this be OK for two HD 5770's?
I reckon it would be fine, the improvement you'll see will be more than any bandwidth lost.
You'll need to keep the OC high on the E5300 though.
Maybe you can do some benchmarks??? With the CPU at stock then at 3ghz, 3.5ghz, 4ghz to show the effects?

i really would if i was you mate, dont waste your money. 8x PCI-E 1.0 (what you have) is the equivelent to PCI-E 4x 2.0, and we know that THATS BAD! very bad.
save your money to either
a) get a new motherboard with the same socket as your CPU (775) and get one with PCI-E 2.0, dual 8x.
b) get a new processor and motherboard, maybe socket 1366, or cheaper get a 1156 witha core i5 760.
c) best thing to do? get a nice AM3 cosket board with maybe a 1055T, thats your best route, and socket am3 is very future proof because it will support the soon-to-come bulldozer 8-Core CPU's.
if you cant afford any of this, still, i wouldnt add another one on that bandwidth because it will bottleneck greatly at eyefinity resolutions.

Why not just sell your current HD5770, and get a GTX 460/5850 ?

OR THIS! ^^ ;P
5770 doesn't do so well with crossfire in eyefinity (Tried and tested).
And AMD Overclocker, stop being a tool, it won't bottleneck a 5770 crossfire.
Sorry but that's nonsense. You will not reach the 8x limit with the 5770 card. The 5870 and 5890s would require 2*16 but 5770s perform fantastically at 2*8
Take that from someone who's been using them for months. Might be up for sale soon too.
This is why AMD Overclocker has lots of neg rep as he's often mistaken.

your wrong though, hes got PCI-E 1.0 (unless i misread) and that does bottleneck at least 20%. so, 8x pci-e 1.0 = 4x pci-e 2.0.
and, that IS a bottleneck.

I thought Crossfire (not Crossfire X) was pretty lame and didn't scale well at all?!

no, it scales excellenty on the 5xxx series. for example, two 5770's in crossfire would almost double up performance in some games, not to mention completely double directx11 tessalation performance.
It doesn't bottleneck.
A 4X PCI E 2.0 lane barely bottlenecks a 5870.

sorry mate i disagree a lot with that my 5770 cf scaled very very well as when i did a review showed -.-
but you are right a x4 hardly bottlenecks a 5870 let alone a 5770! i say get one toon or just scrap it and get a 460 1gb ofc

I meant for eyefinity.
Given how he's wanting it for eyefinity ;)
fair enough you could of been a bit clearer :) or i could have been smarter..

I miss out words due to the nature of the thread, given how it's intended use is eyefinity.
Would love to know who neg repped me >.<
Martin you ain't got nufin on me ;) I get neg repped for agreeing about anything.
Crossfire was ditched cause it was :censored:. The scaling was awful, so I don't think the 5770s will scale well

first off your completely wrong EDIT: i just read your other post about crossfire vs crossfireX so maybe your right :)
second i cant beleive how i get an infraction for saying the word "idiot" where as you swere and nothing happens, whoever is in charge of this forum, you really need some sorting out to do mate.

Because calling someone an idiot is directly offensive to them.
Swearing isn't aloud but if using it in a general term it's not offensive to any specific person.
5770 in Xfire do scale well, my point was there performance in eyefinity at massive resolutions of 5760x1080 etc is hampered by them being only 128 bit.
Two neg rep's are given to that comment, but hats off to Wayneo lol.
Crossfire and Crossfire X are different. Crossfire was dropped cause it sucked balls :D
This guy has a crossfire board (not crossfire X) and as a result they won't scale well
weren't me martin i never neg rep.. just so you know :)

OK thanks for clearing that up.
