Looking for a laptop that's has max 13.3" screen and weights tops 1.6kg that's going to be used for school and uni hence why I want it to be compact. So far I've found this
Competitor link removed. (http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer%5FAspire%5FTimeline%5F3810TZG%5FLaptop%5FLX%2 EPED02%2E015/version.asp?PID=494)
And this
Competitor link removed.
But was wondering if anyone knows of any other better deals?
the acer is good 8 hours battery is very good
Your doing a great job picking yourself already, just make sure it fits the purpose it has a proper mobile CPU and hence has great battery life.. and it doesn't weigh loads ..
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Laptops/Dell+Inspiron+11z+11.6%22++Laptop+-+(A23JY)+?productId=40356 have a look at this its £100 cheaper.. its smaller and doesnt have win7 but £100 is a LOT cheaper.

Hmm how does that celeron compare to the pentium 4100 though? Looks a good laptop that dell thanks for the suggestion
Also snakedoc sorry about the links for some reason thought it was ok for some reason as aria don't do their own brand laptops
i think that sucks tbh you should be able to compare both aria products and others and get honest opinions.. I mean what has aria to worry about?

Its a link to a competitor who sells the same products as Aria. Its not an issue to compare the products, only to place direct links to the item on their website. By all means post the specs.

For heaven's sake, it doesn't take much effort to link to the manufacturer's site.
If the forum rules say no competitors, go suck on your twitter.
Back to the subject, I have a SAMSUNG Q210 (http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=NP-Q210) with a screen of about the right size (Q210). I like it.

I downgraded from a Sony Vaio that cost three times the price for a smaller screen.
While battery life helps, don't bend over backwards to get that if you expect to be within reach of a mains socket most of the time.
If battery life is important, look into the cost of buying a spare. This will also tell you something about the support for whatever you plan to buy.
For deals, look out for last year's model. Stuff that no longer appeals to the go fast brigade, but that could suit you just fine.

Did you read this part of the forum rules:
No promotion of competitors please…
Aria Technology Ltd sells computer components, software, gadgets, toys and mobile telephone equipment as you all know. Any promotion of other web sites/businesses supplying these items is not allowed. It’s free advertising after all and what’s the point? We all know that Aria is the best!
Registering an account and posting is deemed as acceptance of these rules, you aren't going to get much sympathy on twitter.
he posted a link to a laptop on acer the manufacturer of the laptop. that isnt a competitor its a supplier ...
it seems when and who you are is far more pertinent to the moderators than what you post.
I tweeted Aria about this, at the end of the day a forum isnt much use if ytou cant post links to products you need to discuss. Everyone here buys on Aria where ever possible even if it sa little dearer and most of the time it isnt. there is no purpose other than losing customers and alienating people to the way the moderators apply the rules. They are over zealous and too keen to moderate when a chilled laid back approach is what is needed.
posting "OMG this is £50 cheaper on overclockers" is unacceptable and the reason for the rule but posting "is this laptop any good" with a link to the manufacturers site is NOT bad for Aria in any way.. its wrong and nothing you can say could ever convince me otherwise.
well, I could take that entire post as an insult to myself, the other admins and the moderating team, I won't because that would be "over zealous".
Who you are holds NO weight at all, users are equal here and I'm sorry you feel the way you do. This is one of the most laid back commercial forums I've been on, remember the reason for it being here is commercial, hence the ruleset.
There are forums where posting your opinion you have done would have meant an instaban, not here - unless you choose to escalate your little dig at the mod team.

I've just checked this claim - and you are in fact incorrect. The links edited in the thread, the original post and replied were to acerdirect and novatech. Both suppliers, so the moderators did not as you claim edit the posts in an over zealous way, the remove competitor links as per the rules that others have already quoted in the thread.
DT.
Acer timeline sounds like your best bet, only fault i can see is that the build quality is abit weak , keyboard doesn't feel like it would last to long

Well I've had a further look around and it seems that I'll be going for a lenevo u450 has pentium 4100 CPU 3gb ram 320gb hdd and w7 for 400quid And being lenevo the build quality seems spot on. Only thing that seems to be stopping lemon deciding for definite that it's the laptop I want is the whether the CPU will be powerful enough.

They really don't. Toshiba have been in the market a very long time and most of the people I have spoken to about them have found them to be very reliable machines.

when they work.. fantastic!
when they don't work.. be prepared..
at work we run a repair workshop, we had a toshiba from a customer that wasn't posting,
upon looking at the system with 3 different HDD's which we had checked in other systems to be working they all came up with errors on the laptop and upon further investigation it looked like the HDD controller on the mobo had gone, upon contacting acer we where informed..
"i'm sorry we don't recognise your diagnostic programme"
this was when we showed them the results and also how we had tested the harddrive inside it to be fully working...
ok we thought.. well what diagnostics programme do you recommend?
"we do not offer a diagnostics programme or recognise any"
upon sending back to the manufacturers the past 4 times, they either tell us their is no fault, or they swap the hardrive.. as soon as the pc turns on it does not boot and blue screens.. every time!
now toshiba will not take it back at all and we have a very large coaster sat in the corner of our repair centre...
i will never deal with toshiba again... :D
wow what a rant :D
