I just recievd an email telling me that some african bank wanted to deposit $12,500,000 in my bank account, dunno what the reason they gave was as the email was in german.

sent them a nice german email telling them what idiots I think they are, I realise that they now know that my email address is valid and active but I just couldn't help myself, who would fall for this scam?

I often wonder that myself, who would be stupid enough to actually contact them, or give them bank details?

It only takes 1 person to fall for it and they have potentially made thousands.

Micro-Mart (a small IT magazine) once wrote a feature about how they had responded seriously to these scams - that was an excellent read.

I watched a programme once where a journalist made contact with some scammers, and arranged to meet them to discuss money, transfers etc.

In the end the scammers sensed a scam on themselves and actually ran off! The journalist even went to their headquarters abroad somewhere, but they wouldn't open the door!
