Anyone who thinks PC gaming is dying might be surprised by this news. The Horizons Hardware report, compiled by the PC Gaming Alliance, shows that the annual shipment volume for PC hardware in 2009 was over double all consoles combined.

So PCs still seem to be more used than Consoles which is what i wouldnt have thought lol

Anybody else suprised?

Feels quite good knowing that I've spent £200 and can game without issues for 5 years and still have some cash left in my pocked ;)

Nope

I play at solid frame rates, haven't lagged once. That's even with games running at native 1080p.

Lmfao, not the case at all.

No they shouldn't, no game will ever be released as demanding as crysis.

Have you got Resident Evil 5???

That game was a stutterfest at 1080p on my TV.

I had to switch the output on the XBox to 720p.

I've a console since the Sega Master System, then a SNES, then a PS1, PS2, PS3 and XBox 360.

I have a highish end PC now so i got rid of the XBox and my brother has my PS3 so i game on that.

I've never understood the argument between consoles and PC's though, what kills games development on the PC is the Studios like Activision who make billions on a game but never let it evolve as it'd hurt profits they can line their profits with.

Piracy is an issue but not as much as they make out.

Pay yourselves less and charge less.

Each to their own though i guess.

i am not saying they should be as demanding just look like it
if there werent consoles then game developers will have more optimazied engines that can be used

My face when shipped hardware has been spun as PC gaming components.
PC gaming isn't dying, but its definitely the runt now. Is that the consoles fault ? No, IMO, you have dev's like ID who are pushing the 360/PS3 to the max delivering a game thats at 60FPS with very little toned down, its the dev you want to bash - not console gamers, the consoles themselves or the manufacturers.

I'm personally still yet to see a service on PC as good as Live, Steam doesn't cut it and has only took it the best part of 2/3 years for it to look anywhere near and function decently.

that was the selling point of my never going online with my xboxes (before i got a ps3) as i point blank refuse to pay my ISP for the internet AND pay to be able to use it on my console which i again PAYED for

Nope

Xbox 360 and PS3 don't render games at 1080p, they are rendered at lower resolutions and then upscaled to 1080p. For example, Final Fantasy 13 was rendered at 720p on PS3, 576p on xbox 360 (if I remember correctly). Xbox 360 games are usually rendered at less than 600p.

I should say at this point I am not a fanboy of any platform, I play on my xbox 360 and the PC, they both have their pros and cons. If a game is released for both I usually get the PC version for the lower price and better graphics, but xbox live is one huge advantage for the 360 imo. I agree with terbinator, theres nothing on any other platform that rivals xbox live, the likes of steam are still miles behind (although to be fair live is a paid service).

Just stop, before you embarrass yourself further.

GT5 is 1080p, as an example.

I was just about to reply to aaron to say that racing games are sometimes rendered at 1080p, my mistake, I should have said most games on 360 and ps3 are rendered at those resolutions. How have I embarrased myself exactly? The majority of games that people play on xbox 360, including the likes of call of duty and halo are rendered at lower resolutions.

Two games out of how many, exactly ? Again, its down too the devs IMO, Bungie have bumped the resolution up in Reach showing that it can be done on these consoles.

i sold my ps3 because i never used it now im starting to think about selling my xbox 360 because for one, the only game i have for it now is FIFA 10. and my xbox live gold ran out last month and i dont even feel like paying for online again because i dont even use it :|, although i would still like to have a console of some sort but then again im getting into PC gaming alot now, and like people have said, you can get the cheaper games with better graphics for the PC unlike consoles where its all just upscaled or whatever. if i did sell my xbox it could go towards a nice new upgrade for my pc to make it better, but then again i think i would regret selling it :(

1. I have given three examples.
2. I obliviously am not going to list every single one.
3. Reach is rendered at 720p, an improvement yes, but still not true 1080p.
4. I shall repeat myself, I am not a fanboy, I play and enjoy games on the 360 as well as PC, graphics aren't everything after all (although it does improve the game when graphics are impressive as well as gameplay).

Thing is, there is a genuine lack of games for PC. I posted on Hexus what games can i get for the PC this year and its pretty barren TBH.

Then when you look at the console side of things, there is Reach, GT5, Fable 3 & if your into it, Move and Kinect. I'm sure there are other games coming up but theyre the ones that spring to mind.

Consoles also get the latest patches first, on PC they need to be WHQL approved.

I never said you was a fanboy, but that i would just prefer it if you was't so (knowingly ?) sweeping with your statements.

Also, on the 1080p front, they may not be 1080p - but then if every game did look and perform like Crysis the PC crowd would still be crying.

I agree on that. The problem with PC gaming now is the lack of quality exclusives (although there are some), with the exceptions of crysis and starcraft 2 there aren't many good games on PC that aren't also on consoles.

The main thing is with consoles, you can be much more social. eg your mates come round you throw fifa or some other sociable game on and you can sit there in front of your TV having a laugh and some beers etc.

PC - you have to all cram round a smaller monitor with cables everywhere imho less social

imo this is why Consoles will always be around.

Yep... unless you could do multiplayer it sucks.. but then no one really has huge monitors. It would be cool if you had say 2 monitors the same size though for example if you could each then have a monitor, in the case of like a car racing game or a shooter.

Only played on a ps3 (mw2) for a bit. I couldn't stand the multiplayer spec ops as everything was small (42" monitor) and even in multiplayer i prefer my 23"

Not really but PC gaming is on it's death rattle. It's not hardware, it's the software. No-one writes PC games any more.
