ok so it has finaly been given the go ahead
a build for my parents :D
now as for budget there isnt one as they are never going to know the full cost :D
i mainly had 2 aims when chooseing the parts
1. silent
2. light gaming for when my PC goes down
now i feel i have choose the components well but wondered if maybe there is some changes one would make to it. maybe something on the AMD side of things.
also i think the main use will be web surfing but like i said i want to be able to game on it if i cant game on my pc :D
here is the wish list
nothing here
total cost of that is £630.49
edit new one
https://www.aria.co.uk/WishList/QMbl0QlXSAVevsxP3Vc27Q,,
Personally I think thats a bit OTT for Websurfing, something along the line of a low end AMD would be suited here
Mr. Strawberry

but like i said i want to be able to game on it if i want to :D
Even my E5400 is able to do light gaming, a decent graphics card and you'd be fine
Mr. Strawberry
09-08-10, 18:29
i know but i want it to last as well :D
Hmm, wait until someone else pops up i think
Just grab an old 8800GT from the bay for like £45 with an Akasa Vortexx Neo and you'd be sorted. Not sure about the motherboard, not had an EVGA for a while. I'd play it safe and go for something like the Asus P7H55-M or something. Haven't read about that CPU HSF, if you think it's fine that's ok.
Looks fine overall but although the R2 is quiet, it is very pricey too for what should probably be a budget build. I suspect you've already made your mind up about what you're going to buy though...
Mr. Strawberry
09-08-10, 18:59
well my mum chose the case so that is sticking no matter what :D
as for the GPU i am happy with that one as it has passive cooling which is why i chose it.
as for the hyper 212+ it could handle my old i5 at 4GHz and not going to OC so it should be fine as well.
as for the board i chose it simply because it looks awesome and if needed i could test out any crossfire/SLi problems i have with that board

Your being really silly here. When's the last time your parents needed the features of a £100 board?
How often does your PC go down? For how long? Can't you go without gaming for a few days and save £70 on the GPU?
Stop spending your parents money for the sake of it.
Yeh that build is far too OTT. Their money is yours.

Sooo, why did you ask for an opinion? I said in my last post that it looks like you've already made your mind up about what you're going to buy...
Mr. Strawberry
09-08-10, 19:20
ahh i asked on if there is anything from the AMD side anyone would recomend

Personally i would cut the cooler, fan and possibly the case and get the build way under £500.
Mr. Strawberry
09-08-10, 19:32
like i said my mum chose that so it is staying
it is £435 not including OS

Mr. Strawberry
09-08-10, 20:00

09-08-10, 21:39
nope have no need for it
it is for my parents seriously
it makes me look as bad as pc world if my mum asks for a new computer i say ok and comeback with a laptop
In which case a Dual core Athlon would do.
In which case a Dual core Athlon would do.
I'd go for the quad athlon as its better value

Talk to them. Tell them a laptop wil suffice.
The thing is, your doing what PC would do. Spend as much as your money as possible on an overkill spec and not give you what's right for the money.

that is what i am thinking
there isnt alot of price differance in it tbh
and like i said i want the components to die of old age before it gets to slow to handle a bit of web surfing
Hmm yeah looking at the price difference you may as well go to a quad

The i3 is a very good overclocker meaning when you do the odd gaming, clock it a little higher. This build is £475 with Shipping and Packaging, meaning you could get a Graphics Card for £100, like a 5750 or 5770 if your feeling generous. Could you confirm you have a monitor and mouse/keyboard?
AmdOverclocker
09-08-10, 21:58
yeah for graphics i would go for a 5750, or a 5770. thier not that expensive the 5750 is £90 and the 5770 is £120-ish.
you would have to get a 500w - 600w though :)

Steven, I seriously wouldn't over spec a PC for them. My dad has an E5300 @3.6 and he hasn't complained once. It's fast. It has a 4670 in there (I think, can't remember exactly) and can play the odd light games he likes to play.
I honestly don't see why you need a £100 GPU in a system for your parents. Fine, you want to game on it when your system goes down... but then you can just take your 5770 and put it in there for a bit, surely? Don't get the Corsair 650w for the £9 more. It's overkill. 450w is PLENTY for a system like that.
