View Full Version : 5000 RPM to 7200 RPM, and now 10,000 RPM Hard Drives
I remember back in the days when Hard Drives took the transition from 5000 RPM to 7200 RMP, the speed was noticeably faster.
I am currently pondering, what with the 10,000 RPM Hard Drives on the market today, what would be the real benefits achieved by them? And in comparison to their cost, is it worth the investment?
Kind regards
the only 10000 rpm drives i know of are raptors and no they aren't worth the money, the speed increase over normal 7200's is minimal (comparing a single drive, raptors only really come in to their own when raiding several of them) they are noisey (known people to get rid of them because of this) and they are WAY over priced for what they are.
The only other 10000rpm drives are scsi so unless you have a scsi controller card they are no use but the same applys.
I must agree - they are very noisy. >.<
Always 2-3 degrees hotter than my other drives too. They stay around 24 degrees, and the Raptor sometimes reaches 29.
Thank you Mac & Hosser. Looks like I won't be getting myself one of these any time soon.
Kind regards
