Elite - I never played it tho..... but without it I guess there would have been no Codename:MAT or Captain Blood, which I did.

That's some old skool gaming right there! A slightly enlightening and amusing quote from David Braben:
We wanted a huge world, but we had 22K of memory--which is probably even less than a single Frontier icon today. That meant there were probably only a dozen places we could create, which wasn't what we wanted to do. So what we did was we compressed the world, and this trickery gave us huge galaxies to explore. Initially we had way more than the eight galaxies [in the game]. For instance, we threw away a whole galaxy because it had the word "****" in it.
Elite?
Released on the 20th September 1984

Well done!
- My first thought was Dizzy by those Codemaster boys (the Darlings?) but I think that might have been slightly later...
Edit: just Wiki'd - it was the Oliver twins...think I got confused because Your Sinclair called them the Darling Boys or summat.
Dizzy was '86 I believe. That was a fantastic series too

I had no idea and I couldnt be bothered to google, a simple scroll was all I needed!
I think we need a whole new retro gaming thread...

USed to run Elite and Elite 2 on my ST, I paid to have the CPU upgraded to a 68020 10Mhz and a friend with a PC was jealous my ST would run Elite 2 better than his PC
