just get AVG, its free. that said out of all the subscription based antivirus software mcafee is the only one I'd buy.

Yeah it probably will include some sort of subscription period, but whether it would be as long as a year or not, I don't know.

If we're recommending alternatives though, I'm a huge fan of ClamWin antivirus, which doesn't include a real-time scanner and doesn't eat my memory or CPU cycles. I'm not the kind of cretin who doesn't check suspicious files before running them, so I don't like or need real-time protection.

If I did want real-time though, I would also go with AVG Free or Pro, if you don't mind paying.

i agree..use AVG..I used McAfee then changed to avg and the first scan picked stuff up that Mcafee didn't and best of all its free and seems like there are updates everyday :D

Just wondering why you felt it sucks compared to AVG - if there's a decent reason I might move across. Cheers.

better virus detection. thats the reason.

not to mention a better user interface, and yes AVG works on x64 but only if you buy it, the free version is 32-bit only

Cheers. Might wait for a freebie 64bit version in that case. But worth remembering.
