I actually have no idea what to say about this story except it's very tragic, but it seemed like such an odd story that it might generate some interesting responses.

speechless and confused.

It's very sad, but shutting a drier door from the inside must be really hard, depending on the type of drier. The kids left to supervise will need some serious help, article already mentions they are blaming themselves.

Very sad indeed :(

I'm a chronic cynic but I'll wait and see how this pans out. Shutting it himself can't have been easy and are they really airtight? Could someone have turned it on and not noticed the sound a 4 year old human makes inside a dryer? There's absolutely nothing left to surprise me. I wouldn't rule anything out.

What a sad story and a young life so tragically cut short. My sympathies are with the family.

That's tragic :(. Now I've got a 2-year-old myself stories like this really hit home. There were two little kids killed by automatic gates a couple of weeks back also, bizarrely.

That just tragic, my youngest son whos 3 yrs old tried to get into the tumble dryer once and after just that time alone we outlawed him from even entering the kitchen.

But as this terrible story has shown all it takes is once.

There have been some really bizzarre child deaths recently. Including the hangings from the blind pulleys ect.
Saftey proofing is likely to take an extreme turn for the better soon i'm thinking.

with no disrespect, i think some of the responsibility lies with the parents. In this case, the kid should never have been left without a parent - yeah fair enough they were 17/18 & legally allowed to watch the child however they're kids themselves.

Hmm, I am uncertain if you can really blame anyone at all here. Having kids is a full time job and any break you can get while the kid is being looked after by people old enough and responsible enough, is fair enough. At that age, they certainly are. It was a tragic accident, nothing more can said or can anyone be blamed. It could easily have occurred while she was there, so it seems.....

Oh indeed i didnt mean to put the blame onto the parents in this case, however with all these tragic accidents, i'm sure there could be less if parents were more careful.

Agreed, there are some people you see out and about in supermarkets and such with their children and you think they are an(other) accident waiting to happen. Being a parent for the last 20 years ish, I feel fairly qualified to say that no matter what you do, the blighters will find a way to injure themselves!

We are never more than a few feet away from my 3 year old & he still manages to do some crazy stuff, during the day my mum watches him & she is never far from him either, yet again he still manages to bang his head/scrape his knees etc.

Gutted for the family, I know if anything like that happened to my family I would be inconsolable. I'm getting to the point where I can't read any more of these stories, I know it's sticking my head in the sand or whatever but it just stays on my mind too long.

Seen this story on the news yesterday and couldn't finish reading it.

Sad story amongst quite a few others yesterday involving kids. Makes you wonder exactly how well the kids are being looked after.
