When mine does that I go here :-
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/
and click on Validate Windows and everything goes back to normal.
I had this on one of the computers I administer. However, mine was a really weird one and I spent 3 days working with MS to try and get them to fix it (I couldnt just reinstall on this one at the time).. I can't remember what it is that did it, but they did end up releasing a hotfix for it because me and someone else had the same problem in the same week.. Although, I've no idea what the number is :lol:
However, normally going to the site that WL linked to fixes all of that! :)
unless of course it isn't genuine ;)
I've had this problem a couple of times but I just re-installed (once with xp once with windows 7)
I'm using a retail copy of Windows 7 and the only time it's complained about not being genuine is when I upgraded my processor, then it wouldn't activate anymore and I had to activate by phone. I thought it was only OEM copies which wouldn't let you change the hardware?
Apart from that one incident, the closest I've ever come to reactivating is CHKDSK running at startup, like it did this morning.

Mine's done it a few times after a crash, (overclocking a little too far ;))

:cop::cop::cop:
ope, all versions dont like a major change in hardware :|
Just reactivate, and if it doesn't then do it by phone.

That would have been comedy:
"Haloo?"
"'Ello Sir how can I be helpings you?"
"Ma Windees is sayin it isne genuine!"
"wut?"
Glad it's sorted mate.
My win7 x64 pro has survived all sorts of hardware changes, including complete mobo/cpu/ram change. A simple cpu change but keeping the same mobo shouldn't be an issue at all.
