Hmm, Déjà vu!
Have you tried reinstalling steam? I can't think of anything else to try.

Indeed, a couple of weeks ago. It just resolved itself though. It was after a beta client update IIRC.

Disable firewall? Are you going through a router?

turned them off and yes im going through a router. but im using a wireless network bridge if that makes any difference?
Has it caused an issue before? I would think not tbh. Try creating a new Windows user account and reboot, login to that and try steam again? Stab in the dark here
You already did the client.blob delete thingy from the other thread?

nope no issues before at all, although that was at another house with a different router. But i'll try making another account etc and no i didnt know what to do as i dont know what the client.blob thing is to delete it  im not that knowlegable of software all that much when it comes to things like this :(
ah...... One sec
So, in the Steam folder /program files(x86)/Steam, delete the file ClientRegistry.blob and restart Steam.
