40 days to the day I sold a camcorder on ebay for £60
today the guy opened a dispute saying he didn't get it and I haven't replied to one of his many emails (that he didnt send)....
funny that, cos i have proof that he signed for it because I sent it recorded and kept the receipt
anyone had this done to them ? will i loose out here regardless of having proof?
You should be ok.. If you have a proof of postage.. though your need the proof of delivery (online tracking)
this was mentioned as the downside of paypal before.
What do people want for £60 these days...

you cant do that when your account is in debit

where does this pleb live?
people have attempted to con me 3x through e-bay and each time e-bay found in my favour -keep tracking number - in terms and conditions all correspondence must be through ebay- no emails- no proof
Its funny how paypal is "really safe and the best way to pay" until you run into these situations.
Quote is taken from how they advertise it etc.. like on the auction site
Luckily i have never ran into any sort of problem.. The oposite actually.. I bought a chair and it came damaged, after a few days I had no email back from the guy. I noticed he got banned of the website. He was a new user selling 100's of chairs.. plenty of bids and sold everyone. All of the feedback was positive. Paypal dispute opened, after waiting a while got me my money back as he sent a message and refunded me all the money (£70 iirc) and i just paid the £5 postage. I'm still using the chair now as the damage was only like a few slight rips for £5 perfect :P

just had message from the buying saying the following
"Thank you for the information. The building of delivery address contains well over 100 offices. Based on name of person, we now know which office parcel was delivered to. We did email you asking for an update. We only opened the case after 2 emails over 3 weeks. I have spoken to the person signed and will collect item tomorrow."
but still hasnt closed the case
he wont till its in his hands-lazy ****

he just messaged me again saying the same as what you have just said
he will close the case when he has it in his hands and has inspected it
This is why i never sell on ebay, too many people trying it on :|

he has closed the case now but i have no doubt that if i would have chucked out my proof/tracking number i would have got stung here.
in his closing note he said that royal mail delivered it to the wrong address in his offices and they didn't the block offices he works in has 1 counter for delivery to all the offices in the building

I got stung selling on ebay once with the buyer claiming all they received was an empty box. It was for a cpu i had bought twice in error and was selling the un-needed one on ebay.
Paypal dispute was opened and ebay ruled in the buyers favor so i was out of pocket £230. Funnily enough i kept an eye on the buyers account not long after and low and behold he had the cpu which he claimed he didnt receive up for sale some months later.

yeah i wont be using paypal for sales anymore but I will use it for buying from ebay and paying for my newsgroup server
While I haven't been stung by Paypal before, I certainly wouldn't use it for selling on Ebay based on other's experiences.
It's fine for buying stuff though.
I was stung on ebay recently. Sold a motherbaord which went straight from my working pc into its box and ready for delivery.
The buyer claimed he couldn't get it to work. I offered the refund as it seemed like he didn't know what he was doing and i was confident i'd get it working and could re-list it.
It came back with a damaged pin ....I couldn't prove he'd knacked it, but i'm positive it wasn't me. He gave me positive feedback for refunding him after several emails advising him things to try and get it working.
Unlucky on this one i guess.

You could always try to bend the pin back into its place?
I haven't been hit by PayPal yet (*HITS* table!) so I guess I am kind of lucky in a sense. I always keep track of delivery and I still have some dating over two months back. They will NOT rob me :)

Heh, tried it and even though it looks aligned with the rest of them, it still won't boot. It's actually more 'loose' than 'bent'. Its a socket 775 (Asus Striker II Formula) as well so the pins are very short and crooked anyway. :( But worth trying to repair due to its value.
Never been bitten yet but I don't sell an awful lot. Another reason for me to avoid them tbh.

only ever made a handful of sales myself mate wont be doing anymore
after this
I've bought and sold pretty regularly on ebay over the past few years (including my last 4 cars!), in many cases using Paypal, and never had a problem. I guess it's just luck.

it's reading stuff like this all the time that puts me off selling on ebay which I used to do all the time before paypal cropped up and ruined it, heck I've got an A8N sli premium which which has been sat in its box for the past 2 years as you just know that some complete imbecile will buy it and give me grief
actually just looking back at the last year of selling on ebay I've had 3 issues and i can't have sold more than 10 things total and all the issues were down to the buyers being tards, it's just infested with them :(

+1 to this, always do this, also as soon as you get money in your PP account, withdraw it to your bank immediatly.
I would always use moneybookers, never had a single problem and don't know anyone who has! I will never accept paypal as an option if i sell anything.
Also stay away from ebay if you can for reasons like this post.
In the end maybe the guy should have simplified where to post it to, he didn't exactly help himself.
Get yourself a free Basic bank account from the Co-operative Bank. That gives you a debit card which can not go overdrawn. Use it for your Paypal trading, as soon as you get a payment into Paypal transfer it to your Co-operative account and then into your main account. That way Paypal cannot claw it back. Always keep that account in zero balance.
I'd really miss Ebay, as I've bought and sold quite a bit on it over time, and I find it a good resource, but using the above method allows you to be completely secure in your transactions.
^ paypal will do everything they can to come after you.
they will get bailiffs

they will get bailiffs
Paypal will never get bailiffs on you. They do however sell their debts and sometimes hire debt collectors to work on their behalf, they however may get the bailiffs.

yeah but if i did that it would be an admission of guilt if paypal had to make the final call on it it would count against me and I hadn't done nothing wrong
withdrawing money from you paypal right away does nothing because
when you setup bank funding you sign a direct debit and for fast transactions you also have a a credit card on file if not payments to sellers take 12 days so if the moeys not in your paypal they take it out the bank or card

Which is why you need a basic account, since a basic account will not allow you to go overdrawn and if you transfer the money out of it into a normal account no-one can use a direct debit on that account.

Hate it when people abuse ebay, I always send things via signed for delivery these days
Once had a guy claim that something I sent arrived burnt and wet, I didn't believe him as it sounded like a bit of a contradiction to have something that was burnt and also wet, I asked him for proof but he didn't provide any. The next day a letter arrived at my house, I opened it and it was my ebay item, burnt and wet with a letter of apology from Royal Mail saying one of their depots had burnt down, haha, I obviously then gave the guy a refund!

wrightphil (http://forums.aria.co.uk/member.php?u=21989) you really like bringing them old threads back to life
I bought 2 pairs of 'knee' length shorts for my holiday that literally came down to my ankles (I'm 6ft 3). I asked him for a refund as they're advertised as wrong. He opens a Paypal dispute saying he has photographic proof of posting 2 pairs of knee length shorts.
I asked for the photo proof, he sent them. I checked the meta data for the photo and lo and behold! The meta data shows the photos was taken about 4 minutes after he said he had proof! HAHAHA!!
Paypal instantly refunded me...
I sell my training gear regular on Ebay and so far, its been pretty good, but the horror stories of Ebay/Paypal are out there.
Have a read of: http://paypalsucks.com/newforums/
has become breeding ground of crooks, just have be really careful keep all proof :thumb:
I almost got stung by ebay/paypal over the summer. Some Polish kid bought my 4890 off me so I sent it his way for him to say it wasn't working. In great detail I explained how to install it correctly, set up the drivers etc. He said he still couldn't get it to work so opened a dispute saying he wants a refund. Hell no! The card worked perfectly! I immediately went to Paypal to remove my account but paypal automatically withdraw and hold the necessary amount for the dispute.
The kid said he managed to get the card working but only at a low res - proving the card was ok and was a driver issue. I called ebay and spoke to some really hot sounding american girl and she was like "yeah its fine, if hes got it working then at the end of the dispute you'll be favoured".
BAM! Sorry Kid, no refund for your stupidness.
Moral of the story: Have extensive proof of anything working over before you send it. That way if its broken when they try and install it, you can claim from the courier.

Common scam, ebay have taken a kicking for abusing the little man in the past (ie buyer) now the boot is on the other foot, and the seller is the one that is guilty until proved otherwise, and as most people will admit, after 60 days or so they tend to forget where receipts and such are, and proof of delivery is long forgotten, without that the seller will first loose the money the buyer paid for the item he claims never to have received, then they will freeze the account.
In the even that the seller proves all is well, and delivery proof etc ties up, they "should" refund and unfreeze the account, however, it is entirely up to them, remember whilst your account is frozen they can do what they want with the funds, and you will collect zero interest on it, they on the other hand will rake it in ;)
If all works out, and you get your cash back.... ebay will do sod all about chasing/catching/prosecuting the buyer, they "might" if your lucky close their account, and if that happens they will just open another one and crack on the same !.... because it costs money to follow up on such stuff, and fleabay aren't there to spend money and provide a safe environment, kind of hard to say they are when they own prey-pal  .... bit of a contradiction in terms :p

Even if the buyer and seller are honest, you still have to worry about PayPal itself stealing your money; because you wont get an apology and they wont pay any bank penalty charges their actions may cause you.
i must be careful and not go on a rant here..
but i just gone fudged of £450 by paypal, was saving up my paypal funds to get new sb build, and then all of a sudden paypal want me to provide business details, vat numbers, tracking numbers for things i have sold some over a year ago, invoices, names of my suppliers !..
i phoned them and explained that im not a business so i cant provide any of that information, there reply was "untill you answer the questions you will not have access to your account or any funds you have in paypal.
Bunch of to-sirs!.
they can get away with it aswell because there a big company who make millions doing this to people day in day out...

why not.... i do when it comes to this dangerous company, even if i was to setup a bank account and lock it down tight, zero cash in unless i needed, no overdraft etc etc, or even closed it after i had created the prey-pal account, the minute they can't get their own way and steal from your bank account, they will nuke your credit rating !

no, they can get away with it because you signed the terms of agreement that quite clearly states they can do as they please, freeze your account, withdraw any amount from your bank account and that what every they do/decide is final with no 3rd party arbitration available
This the main reason i do not deal with Paypal or ebay.

Not so much of an issue with paypal but more so with eBay... Three days since my auction ended and I still haven't received any form of payment or message from the buyer. I am really starting to regret attempting to sell the item on eBay. Why bid a stupid amount of money (£49) on an item which isn't worth near that amount... (£35 tops)!
TheMadDutchDude:
I've sold loads of things on Ebay and mostly people pay up straight away, but the odd person takes the P and takes over a week to pay. Really annoying since I time them to finish so I can post it all the next day lol
