Built a PC for my mate yesterday and everythin was fine after id installed windows until we tried installing something and the PSU blew for some unknown reason.

We used a PSU that came with the new case he bought.....

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/+X-Blade+MIDI+Tower+Case+-+Silver?productId=16834

Specs were

Intel C2Duo E6300
2GB Elixir PC6400 RAM
500GB Seagate Barracuda IDE
and the mobo is a http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/Asrock+4Core-Dual+VSTA+775+?productId=26474

Surely the 450watt PSU could easily power that setup yet it blew.

And my god do they stink or what when they blow.

Any opinions?

I just hope thats the only thing that blew, its not beyond the realms of possibility it has nuked other components.

In theory yes 450watt psu should be enough for that system, depending on what graphics card you have installed, BUT generic psu's that come with cases are notoriously weak. If you look closely at the psu it will probably say something like 450watt max / peak or something along those lines when in reality it can only supply 300 watts (or less) constantly BUT whats more important is it probably wont have over voltage protection and other protection features built in like branded psu's have and these are what save other components when the psus fail.

he better pray its not fried anything else then.

Let this be a lesson to ppl who buy cheap cases with bundled psu's
