View Full Version : Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot!
Ok, can anyone see the irony of Microsoft Windows Vista telling me that Microsoft Age of Empires 3 has known compatibility issues on the OS? :)

Windows Vista is a lot more compatible, bug free, and reliable than many make out. I never make use of my XP partition any more 8)
I installed Vista to give it a serious go. So far the drivers have actually been better than XP believe it or not.
But when playing games I've had about 8 crashes in the last 2 days :(

My system has not yet crashed (3 months) but i don't play many games so cant say for those..
Ive had vista since it came out, its only crashed a few times from dodgy XP drivers when i was trying some drivers. Never crashes in games unless i push the oc too far.
I reckon you'll find that either:
It runs fine if you ignore the warning
Or
If you press \"Check for solutions online\" it'll direct you to a patch or workaround to fix the issues.
Halo also claims to be incompatible, but it has never misbehaved for me, and I moved to Vista the day it came out, thanks to my MSDN subscription.

I have aoe 3 on vista, I think there is a patch.
I also installed vista alongside XP as I was reluctant to switch but now I only use XP for programming as vista runs my games so well, the only games that have crashed on me are GMod10, which has a lot of bugs and is resource heavy, and theme hospital which has been poorly adapted for XP and was unstable anyway.
Driver issues? not with NVidia and Creative Labs

I have the AoE3 1.1 patch on, and I don't think it's crashed so far, although the warning message still pops up before I start the game. It's just stupid that MS wouldn't double check things like that before they release stuff :P

well, theyre probly too busy swimming in piles of money to do anything sensible
[quote:2a56e2e104=\"PrivatePyle@Work\"]Lol, I do :D
I will never move to Vista before SP1 at the earliest.. Atm the only game out for it is Halo 2, and by all accounts it sucks.[/quote:2a56e2e104]
I agree once the SP1 is out then i will think about changing but until then, whats wrong with WinXP

Well I lost patience with Vista.
Nice look, BUT
Slow to Boot
Resource hungry
None of my other programmes worked with it
Solution,
Buy more memory
Buy several new pieces of software
OR
reload with XP................. No contest

Microsoft have a lot of work to do on Vista. Have just spent another three hours figuring out what program was causing Vista to crash after a Windows update. Sigh.

its weird but I never have serious problems with any version of windows, and vista is excellent when you consider that its fairly new.
most crashes are caused by poorly written third party stuff like drivers

The problem I had last night was with AVG which worked fine before the Windows Hotfix. I uninstalled it and all is well. The worrying thing is that if you're a new or inexperienced user that upgrading to Vista would be a complete nightmare.
