Right now I'm running my PC on what I thought was a generic 600W or at least, that is what it was sold as.
I found out that on the label the total power output is actually 320W and I really need a minimum of 350W.
I'm also looking at upgrading to Bulldozer once it's launched and so I'm going to need something a little beefier.
Especially when I add a HD 5870/6850 later on for smooth eyefinity performance.
I'm looking at either:
XFX 650W XXX Modular (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/XFX/XFX+650W+XXX+Modular+Power+Supply+?productId=39858 ) (£69.99 at competitor - can get price match)
OR
XFX 850W Black Edition Modular (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/XFX/XFX+850W+Black+Edition+Modular+Power+Supply+?produ ctId=39860)
Which would be best for a Bulldozer + HD 5870 system?
Something you can afford.
You're a kid, don't waste your money on planned upgrades.
Get an OCZ 400W, and be done with it till College - EMA.
Be logical.

Provided he gets EMA...
AFAIK know the XFX are just re branded Seasonics - if a Seasonic is cheaper for same spec just get that. Also, i thought given the choice the majority of people would want to avoid XFX.
i know it aint modular but come on £3 more than your 850w

£12 more for modular

I'm a nerd, an E5300 and HD 5770 won't last me till College/Uni.
I'd like to do one large upgrade before I stick with it for a few years.
If I get a 650W or 850W it'll last for a long time. A 400w will last me until my next upgrade.
It's my primary hobby, somethings you just gotta buy :weeee
Besides, my Xbox 360 is on eBay so I'll be able to get this with the money I make from that.
Plus, it's my birthday on the 30th July so I'll probably get about £100 from that once I add it all together.
I get about £15 a week just by keeping my room tidy, I think I've only earned about £30 from room tidying this year  (It's not my fault I've got old motherboards lying on my bedroom floor)
If Bulldozer comes out Feb 2011 lets say I'll have the £100 from my birthday and I clean my room every week that'll leave me with £550, just enough for a large upgrade.
Now that's gotta be logical
650 should be fine, but i would go for a 850 if you have the cash.

I wouldn't really go for their graphics cards, the 1 year warranty puts me off a little.
Their power supplies are actually very impressive.
I'd prefer modular too, cable management is something I'm getting more and more fussy about.
The 650W seems like a good deal, £69.99 for a modular PSU.
Cerb, that corsair 850W modular is actually identical to the XFX just a little bit more £ wise.
Spending your money isn't logical at your age, what about learning to drive etc?
As someone who's only 18, I'd suggest you save it.

I'm not.
My point being, don't spend the money on tech.
Certain things happen which cannot be predicted, if I had the money which I never spent on my PC, or I'd made another choice, things would be different.

He is not asking for your tips of life, just a PSU. TBH you are being a little rude and patronising.

Sure, he's a kid and the money might be better spent somewhere else, but how's that any different to what you've done?
Unfortunately not everyone gets free money to spend on their PCs...
Not the point I'm making.
He's talking about future upgrade, hell, even mention of the 6XXX series.
When SteveWright did that, who has a job, we all ripped him apart..
Why is this any different?
I'm not giving him tips of life, or anything like that.
He wanted advice on a PSU, I gave him that, a 400W OCZ..
This is money he doesn't own, signing it away before having it is something unadviseable.

I had the money before I signed it away.

Damn, what a debate this has turned into.
I'm already saving up for eyefinity Martin so I'll need an HD 5870 or HD 6850 in the future anyway.
Bulldozer is also something I'd like to look at, my E5300 just doesn't really cut it.
Besides, this is a hardware forum not an economics forum. Unless specified money isn't really a factor other than price to performance ratios.
I retract, go for the 850W, with 3 Dell 22"'s.

Also, whats to say Bulldozers TDP, depending on which one you do or don't eventually get will warrant a heavyweight PSU so to speak. I can run another GTX 260 with my current rig and PSU.
850w, more power the better ;D
