View Full Version : Blue Screen
Okay so i woke up this morning only to have my sister tell me her pc is broken...
I thought i'd just restore an old Ghost image that was still on the computer as this usually fixes all problems however when booting up the computer, it passes the windows XP screen & then puts up a blue screen with something about memory.
Help...
May have a faulty ram stick in there. Take one stick out and see if it boots. If not take the other one out and put the other stick back in and see if it boots then.
Removed each stick & tried them one by one. still comes up.
Does it boot up in safe mode ok?
Jot down what's on the blue screen.
i think it might be the memory dump screen
Nope, the monitor goes off & then the whole PC reboots again...
Sometimes when booting, it comes up "System Boot Failure"
I can't jot down what it says on the blue screen as it appears for 1 second then the PC reboots.

Could always be a failing hdd. Try booting from a linux live disk, just to see if it boots.
in situations like that - i bring out the big book of swearing, then proceed to recite a few pages followed by a format and fresh install of windows
If you can't get into safe mode to disable auto reboot. You could use a camera. :D
lol - well i've had that book out for a while now xD
Installing Windows 7 on her PC now...
Okay i've installed Windows 7 on her PC & it all seems to be working now...
Thanks for your help...
To disable automatic reboot on system failure, hold the F8 key during post, then select Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure. This is usually done before the Windows logo appears, so when the blue screen happens next time, it'll stop on the blue screen and you'll be able to jot down the message...

All ways useful to know
Pressing F8 during POST will probably bring up a HDD boot menu or BIOS.
1 Access System Properties by either going into Control Panel and clicking the icon, or right click on Computer/My Computer and select "Properties" from the drop down menu.
2 Click "Advanced" or "Advanced System settings" to open the "System Properties" screen.
3 Click "Advanced" tab

4 Under "Startup and Recovery", click "Settings"
5 Untick "Automaticall restart" under "System failure"

This will now give you time to copy the BSOD information.
Snakedoc, i believe that col already mentioned that but your screen prints are somewhat useful too
Okay i'm starting to get Bluescreens now whenever i go to do something like loading up a game.
Usually i'm quite lazy & don't shut down things like MSN & other general apps & i just go to load up a game, but now when i do that - my pc goes to a bluescreen, it will create a "dump" of some sort, then reboot.
I'll write down what it says next time however could this be failing memory?
It usually happens when loading up Bad Company 2 however it just did it with Plain Sight there which isn't demanding.
I'll check each RAM stick to see if it continues.

whats the code of the blue screens or do they vary?
Hmm - i'll edit this post when it happens again...
EDIT: This is the error message i get when returning to desktop after the reboot.

Have a look at this app - it should let you view all of your previous blue screens if your computer logs them, which it should be by default:

Can be very handy for looking for a common factor :)

Just done a little reseach on 0x0000003B errors.
Seems to sometimes be related to firewall software, are you running something other than the built in firewall?
The only other options seem to be graphics/chipset drivers, are you using the latest ones?
Are your RAM voltages and timings set manually as per their spec or just on auto?
Yeah im using the latest graphics card drivers & all my RAM voltages are set to auto i guess.
The bluescreen hasn't happened yet so can only hope it never does.
This is the error code that just came up whilst loading Bad Company 2
System_Service_Exception

Try setting your RAM timings and voltages manually according to the manufacturers spec. Your mobo might be undervolting them.

hmm , i've had this mobo & this RAM for ages - could that really be the case? the mobo has just suddenly decided to undervolt them?
I got some BSOD on a Windows 7 PC trying to run Call of Duty 2. It was something about dump physical memory.
Just trying to rule it out really.
I got some BSOD on a Windows 7 PC trying to run Call of Duty 2. It was something about dump physical memory.
Yeah i'm getting it on most games now really - just tried to launch Napoleon Total War there...
but this time the BSOD had " CDD.dll " instead of "win32k.sys"
I got some BSOD on a Windows 7 PC trying to run Call of Duty 2. It was something about dump physical memory.
That's not what it was about lol, it's what it was doing. Saving the memory contents to your hard drive.
Okay well i tried removing one stick to test each stick out & one of them failed to do anything for example;
i put it in & my monitors wouldn't come on or anything, but the pc would boot up.
Removed that one & tried the other one & everything is fine. Can i conclude that the first stick is faulty?
have you tried the good stick in the faulty slot, or vice versa?
Yep, better try both slots with the working stick just to be sure.
I was just saying I had a similar problem when trying to run a game, and I had also put more RAM in.
Right i'm currently using the good RAM in the slot that the bad ram used to sit in & all is well , managed to have a few games of Bad Company 2 & kick snakedoc's *** :)
I've also created a RMA ticket for OCZ :)
Lol
I was on your side. No wonder we lost.

Total lies, you weren't on my side at all! - I won with 12 kills to your 7 ROFL
Just to put a lid on this thread - after 1month, I've finally received my brand new kit from OCZ!
Sent my last ones for RMA as stated somewhere in this thread & i just got my new ones an hour ago :D
Good to hear. You have been whining about OCZ for ages! Shame they wanted both sticks.
