These new Penryn chips, quad cores with 12mb cache and 1333 bus speeds.

Are they going to work ok on a nForce 680i chipset or are they going to be for the new chipsets?

I doubt the 650i or the 680i will support Penryn core CPUs. Neither will the 965/975 Intel chipsets. Wait for Penryn is my advice. By then the 680i will be a cheaper chipset anyway, so if I turn out to be wrong...

I can't speak for other mobo's but the Abit IN9 is quoted as 1333fsb so if thats what the Penryn cpus use then i would assume they might only need a bios flash, don't quote me on that though.

Well I already have a 680i motherboard and it says it can handle 1333 bus rates on my mobo.

As my E6600 seems a bit slow compared to the rest of my pc, I was hoping to stick a 2.9 penryn in there later this year.

Simple answer to that is overclock it then, assuming you havent.

If you could get your hands on one of the new motherboards with Intel P35 chipset, that'd be great - fully ready for Penryn and some are DDR3 ready, also. I plan to do another upgrade at the end of this year, and as I'm AMD/ATI at the moment I'm going for Intel/nVIDIA this time. Intel P35, a Penryn CPU, DDR3 memory and a GeForce 8800/8900/8950, depending on availability, methinks.

i bought a ninja cooler to do a fat overclock but it was terrible.

So I only have a stock cooler, of which i dont dare overclock faster than 2.7

Gets hot enough as it is.

That a Scythe cooler?? If so they are supposed to be pretty good, what temps you getting they do run a tad warm, mine hits 60 whilst stress testing and im on watercooling.
