View Full Version : Asus ... how do YOU pronounce it?
Hey guys,
I don't know if there's been a thread on this, but a fresh debate is always healthy.
So, as per title, how do you pronounce the above?
At work, the gaffer called it "Ay-seus", which just sounds stupid.
I've always said "Ay-suss", and will continue to, but at work, one colleague gets funny and demands we pronounce as per the gaffer. It just seems like such an un-natural way to pronounce the word.
I know some people also pronounce it "Ah-suss", which I suppose is the alternative to the way I say it, as per "scone" and "sconn" :)
Pronounce it like spanish people pronounce Jesus

I think you should all just pronouce it like this - asus. Keeps things simple :)

This is where I understand the gaffer has got it from, he obviously deals with higher up people in these companies, so Asus will obviously pronounce it in their native tongue.
If it is to be pronounced "Ay-zeus", then surely we should pronounce another such word "Toe-may-toe", for example? :)

Asus ... how do YOU pronounce it?
It, there's no other way of pronouncing "it".
"Ace us" is how I pronounce it.
But I have heard it on TV pronounced "ah-suse" before.

I've always pronounced it 'Ace-us', but the other day I heard a rep from a major company in the industry pronounce it 'A-zeus'. I guess it's open to interpretation :p

Well the name comes from Pegasus so that might help us decide how to pronounce it...

the way i meant it when i said a sus is the same as the pronouced ace-us
It's hard to type out how we pronounce words, as it can be read differently.
A - pronounced as you would say it when saying the alphabet, then SUS - prnounced similar to "i sussed it"

Same :)

so you guys sort of separate the A and treat the word as 2 syllables, hmmm, nope i's always thought of that as the way the americans pronounce it (and other stuff http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/images/smilies/whoopin.gif)

Agreed. To me, "ay" is pronounced like A in the alphabet, but "aye" is pronounced like i in the alphabet.
Ace-us.
