View Full Version : Faulty laptop q
Hi all,
Got a laptop here which is completely dead. Power adapter is working fine, no lights or fans.
Motherboard goosed?
Tia
I've got 2 the same here - thats the same conclusion I've come to..
Thanks:) time to tell the owner how much its gonna be :)
Turned out to be dodgy power adapter :)
  Good move..
I wish mine were that simple.. I've tried different adaptors, different power sockets, new batteries and still get absolutely nothing.. No lights or any signs of life at all..

Have you tried replacing the connector on the laptop mobo where the power plugs in? I know that these can go quite easily and normally only cost a few quid on the fleabay but a bit of a pian to get the mobo out all the time.
Yeah, thats what I meant by different power sockets.. I've lost count of how many laptops I've fixed these on!

lol, take it youve done a few then. good luck with it.
 Thanks.. I'm thinking it may be a case of strip out the screen/keyboard/ram/CPU/mousepad etc and keep them for spares, and then bin the rest...

good idea, spares for laptops are always handy!!
Yeah - you know exactly what will happen though.. In stripping it out, I'll remove the final bit and find there is a dodgy connection somewhere
I do have 3 laptops of the same make/model though, so I may be able to make one good one out of the 3..

by any chance are they HP/Compaq? There is a known issue with some models, due to a dodgy GPU chip google HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement
You might be able to get them repaired for free :)
