What do you think?
I'm using Chrome at the moment, switched to it after I got sick of Firefox. I had a look at Opera on it's website (have never used it), thought it looked ok and might give it a try, but I thought I'd ask what you guys think.

opera is nice in some ways but it can read pages differently to other browsers and some things appear in the wrong places. It is getting a lot better and had a great built in email program.
All in all its very nice and sleek.
I prefer it to chrome but I am still a firefox fan.

i chose chrome over firefox because it was a total pain in the ****!, and then i tried opera but i must say i prefer chrome, duno why though :p
opera by a mile, super fast
I prefer Firefox, Chrome looked good but after all the privacy stuff I couldn't use it. What about Safari 5, has just come out.
Wouldn't want to lose all my Firefox addons, plus I like Personas. OK, it's not as fast compared to the competition as it once was, but the community is brilliant and Firefox 4 looks like it'll be good.
I run Chrome too for an ultra-lightweight browser when I'm in a rush. My housemate used to run Opera, was horrid imo...something just didn't click for me with it.

The new opera V5 (Released today) is VERY buggy as per here (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1188).

The reason I left Firefox was because Chrome was so much faster. Initially I didn't like Chrome because of the lack of add-ons but now that it supports them I went with it. I also prefer the default look of Chrome to that of Firefox, even with a theme/persona, plus chrome has it's own personas.

You mean Safari!

Yeah I liked it, but after the whole privacy "issues" it put me off for good. Pretty sure it still isn't sorted, although there are custom user created versions without those issues.

always used to use FireFox right up until Chrome was realsed and ever since then its always been chrome. Really light wieght and very user friendly, they also have all the extensions and plug-ins now that V5 has been released.

I won't use any software which phones home, so Chrome is a no-no. Firefox is fine with me, you could try SRWare Iron, which is a no-phone-home version of Chrome:
http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php
I like chromium (chrome, but without the phone-home stuff built in).
Firefox is good if you want addons, it has the widest range of all the browsers, but I think it's got a bit 'bloaty' like it's ancestor netscape tended to, so I switched to chromium for everyday use a while ago. As a web developer I try to use them all though, even IE (8 isn't as bad as most of it's predecessors, to be fair) and safari (yuk).
I use firefox exclusively but will be willing to give chrome a go when it has a plugin which compares to noscript.
EDIT: I use Opera on my iPhone and it is very good, I tried it on my pc but it was a bit too different for me. I suppose you would get used to it.

Do these support add-ons like the main version of Chrome? I'm interested.
EDIT: just installed that SRWare Iron browser, it seems to support the Chrome extensions, it's pretty much identical to Chrome looks wise as well.
I prefer the look and the features of opera but still end up using chrome as I think its slightly faster.

Yup it's based on the Chromium project source, just as chrome is. Chromium is an open-source project sponsored by google. Essentially the SRWare browser is a 'build' of chromium
that explicitly disables the collection and transmission of usage information and enables ad blocking and full user agent control (from wikipedia).
And yeah I respect opera as a tight bit of code, and have done since it used to fit on a floppy disk (back when that was relevent) but somehow I've never quite 'got on' with it.
Of the two (Chrome and Opera), Opera wins hands down!
One thing that really bugs me about Chrome aswell as IE and others, they use more than one process..Why?? It does my head in, why dont they just use one!
FireFox is still my Fav though!!
Worth getting one of these over standard Google Chrome IMHO:

I'm really pleased with chrome

I'm pretty sure the multiple process thing is to do with multiple tabs, I would assume this would help with stability.

This is correct. It stops one page crashing and taking out the entire browser and all those tabs you had up of stuff you were just about to look at.
I use SRWare Iron (after someone here pointed out Chromes phoning home). Fast as hell for me and conforms to the HTML standards as they are set out. Chromium also looks like it has great support for HTML5 and CSS3 already.
Runs super fast when using a RAMDISK as cache. :thumb:
Indeed, I mean at the end of the day with almost any modern system a few extra processes isn't going to make any difference. I'd rather have feature than not.

Ramdisk as a cache.. How/why are you doing this? I'm interested..
I would imagine just for the pure speed, but they are also used to reduce writes to SSDs.
i never got used to opera at all but for some odd reason i really like chrome
Chrome is fast but I like that opera just does so much, I'm loving that I can use all my bookmarks from my pc on my phone right now.
Chrome all the way here, Simple and fast. :)

but with opera just the one process and if it boms out just restart the browser and it returns you to where you were, jobs a goodun

But Chrome , Opera,IE , Safari..non of have got hardly any features at all! not when compared to FireFox

My thoughts exactly! same with firefox aswell, gives you the choice to reopen the tabs if it crashes.
Im not sure but doesnt Chrome have more than one process even with just one tab open???
I know more processes isnt exactly a major issue, its just a personal gripe with me I guess! I just like to have the minimal amount as possible and try to keep cpu and mem usage low!!
Often with IE it doesnt close its process when you shut down the browser aswell!!!
But Chrome , Opera,IE , Safari..non of have got hardly any features at all! not when compared to FireFox
Indeed, I use firefox and I'm very pleased with it. It also has a similar feature and only uses one process, but uses more system resources than most of the others.
All I was saying is that system resources, extra processes etc make very little difference on pretty much any modern system, I just don't see why people make the say old fuss about it.
I could never use standard Chrome, I don't see how others could unless they are not aware of the privacy issues, calling home etc. But as it is open source there are other alternatives as I've previously mentioned.
Chrome can actually be run in 3 modes:
By default it runs in 'One Process Per Tab' mode (plus one for the parent process).
However you can change this with a command-line switch (e.g. by changing the shortcut in windows):
Process Per Site (--process-per-site) - multiple tabs to the same domain are grouped together
Single Process (--single-process) - everything thing is run in one single process.
It also lets you open up 'recently closed' tabs in the case of a crash, and in fact I just closed the browser,. re-opened it, and restored my 'recently closed' tabs and it even retained the contents of this half-completed HTML form, which I think is pretty nifty :).
I have no particular problem with Chrome, but a lot of its brilliant new features were actualy available in opera a long time before chrome appeared
Ramdisk as a cache.. How/why are you doing this? I'm interested..
I would imagine just for the pure speed, but they are also used to reduce writes to SSDs.
As Speed mentioned it's mainly to take the constant writing off the SSD.
I run Dataram RAMdisk set at 512MB, copies contents of ramdisk to HDD on shutdown and restores on boot.
You can also use it for a type of privacy mode. Set your browser to cache everything to the ramdisk and on shutdown don't bother saving an image so all the content and traces are gone with power off.
SRWare Iron is actually really decent with it's cache cleanup/size (although this can be restricted through command lines) and so far I'm averaging around 125MB in cache. That said...I don't do 'that' much surfing of different sites when I'm at home.
And if you're wondering just how fast a RAMdisk is...here's mine (need some more RAM tweaking but probably as good as it'll get)
