View Full Version : Displayport Monitor or Adapter?
hello guys,
I am looking to replace my 2 monitors with 3 new ones so i can make use of the eyefinity of my graphics card.
firstly can you reccomend a monitor that is good and dosent cost the earth (because i have got to buy 3)?
Secondly is it better to get a monitor with a displayport or just use an adapter?
Cheers
Matt
What screens do you have currently?
How big screens are you looking for?
Oh, and what's your budget?
Personally if you're trying to minimise expenditure I'd recommend this one: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Monitors/23+Inch+LCD/Arianet+2362WD+23%22+Full+HD+Widescreen+LCD+Monito r+-+Black+?productId=37241
23", full HD - I have one and the picture is flawless.
If 3* 23" is too big, I'd recommend that one and 2 17" displays (these can be picked up cheap now-a-days), one on either side.
Anyway yeah, need to know what more what you want first!
And it doesn't really matter if you get a DisplayPort monitor or an adapter, both should be just fine.

if you want to use eyefinity, one screen MUST be on displayport. to use a DP->DVI adapter, you have to get an active one ~£80...

Thanks for your reply
i have a 19'' and a 22'' GNR moniters they were quite cheep but seem to work fine (although one looks quite blue and the other looks red and they both have the same settings).
budget is spread out i.e. i will buy the monitors one at a time so <£200 for each would be ideal.
I was thinking about 22" as a screen size. i like the look of this http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Monitors/22+Inch+LCD/LG+W2286L-PF+22%22+Widescreen+LED+Monitor+-+Glossy+Black+?productId=40484 but is dosent have the displayport.

Ouch, not being an eyefinity user myself I wasn't aware of this restriction. How annoying.
if i need to pay £80 for an adapter or add £100 to the price of the monitor i might just get a 2nd graphics card!!

Not entirely true. At 1080p and below (on one monitor) a passive DP->VGA adapter has been found to work provided it is the kind with a wire not just the adapter. Cost £12-25. Try a google search on "Cheap way to run Eyefinity tested".
Besides that the Active adapter at £80 is still cheaper than paying the extra for a monitor with a DP, especially if u want to buy 3 of the same monitor so it looks good.

ahhh didn't realise it was resolution specific.
that makes a bit more sense now.
I assume that the poster of this point http://superuser.com/questions/118957/converting-displayport-and-or-hdmi-to-dvi-d/118959#118959 is highlighting that Jeff (the OP of the topic) is probably going for 2560x1600 rather then the usual 1920x1200 24"
Or you could get a DP to VGA adaptor and save yourself about £75 quid.
see above  but has to be the right type of DP->VGA.
haven't read through this post so sorry if repeating advice, but i think that an adapter can cost about £30 but you need an £80 active one for lots of monitors (or so i was told), sounds like a display port monitor is the best way to go ;)
wrong...should have listened to ur own caveat  read up!

Displayport irritates me, why didn't they just go with three DVI/HDMI outputs for Eyefinity?

Dell P2210H goes for £120 Exc. VAT if you can buy it through a business.
The monitor has a native DisplayPort connection too.
I currently own one and am looking at getting two more. Great monitor.
