Hello all, Long time no speak. :D Been busy with a lot of other crap!

I'm in need of some help! My cousin bought the above PC and its not working as it should!

The exact pc is this one: http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Asgard/Gladiator+Asgard+Intel+I3+Dual+Core+OC+4.00GHz+Gam ing+PC+?productId=39879

Since he got it and installed windows 7 64 bit he says there have been random restarts, with no blue screen etc. I got to see this once myself, and it just turns off then on again, even with the automatic restart option turned off. There are no dump files etc giving a clue as to why this is, and apparently the restarts are completely random - he thought he had fixed it after it worked normally for a couple of days, but then it started again

Currently at his house, and we've read up on many other people having similar issues with windows 7 64 bit, so we're trying to reinstall XP and see if that helps at all, but the machine is listed as being windows 7 compatible

Any help would be appreciated!!

Update: XP is causing the same problem too so its sounding like a hardware problem. Help!

Memtest86+, Download the ISO, burn it and boot from it.

Run it for a few hours and see if there are any errors.

Just eliminating RAM from the equation.

Hi, I'm the cousin in question here. Just asked "Jiggles" to post for me because my account wasn't validated yet.

I ran Memtest and left it on overnight, for probably about 14 hours overall. 24 passes, no errors. I do find it kinda strange that the computer didn't do the whole spontaneous restart thing while doing the memtest, not sure if this is a clue as to what could be wrong.

I've checked all the temperatures, the highest anything ever goes is the graphics card, which goes up to 47ish when playing a game on it. CPU temps tend to hover around the high 30s area when playing a game.

The worst part is the computer works great apart from these annoying restarts, and I absolutely cannot figure out whats wrong so I can fix it :/

Bumping this, some sort of admin reply or something would be nice, since I have spent a significant amount of money on something that doesn't actuallly work :/

At a loss what to do now. Tried a different PSU that was known to work, got another random reboot after a few hours with it in. Going to be sending the whole thing back soon, I think.

Hi,:)
Try to load the optimal settings from bios and see if the system is stable without the overclock, if it is stable then it all points out to the OC settings.
You could also try to leave settings as they are and just lower the memory frequency speed and see if it's stable.

Unfortunately the info given is not enough to be of more help.

Hope you sort it out, good luck.:thumb::p

Hi, thanks for the help. I'm not sure what other info I can give. but if you need anything you can ask and I'll try. Like I say, there aren't any clues as to whats causing this.

I'm not sure how to do anything to do with the BIOS, one of the reasons I got a premade computer was because I am not exactly the most tech savvy person around! I normally solve problems by googling error messages and whatnot, but in this case there are none :p

When Jiggles came around the other day he tried lowering the memory frequency, but that didn't work. I'd like to try this loading the optimal settings thing, but you'd have to tell me how I'm afraid

Had a very similar issue with my old mans PSU, random restarts etc. I switched from his generic junk to a branded PSU & it's solid as a rock now.

Worth trying another PSU if you have one.

Turn the PC on then hit delete until it enters the BIOS, on the right hand side it should say Load default settings somewhere.

Hit that, then press F10 and hit yes.

Did you add a graphics card? If so where from.

I say send it back and let Aria fix it. That's what you paid for.

I agree as from what you said you are not very keen in getting into bios settings. Let the experts handle it.:thumb::p

Yeah I really wouldn't want to tell someone who isn't confident in bios to go poking around in there, especially when the system can just be taken back to Aria for fixing.

Oops sorry never saw the post where he said he had tried a PSU.

Thanks for the input guys. From what folks are saying I'd be best off just sending the whole package back rather than messing around with it myself and risk making the problem worse, so I'll do that I think.

Does anyone know if Aria is good with this sort of thing? I mean, they aren't likely to just skim over it and save themselves some time by saying its fine? Not pointing any fingers or anything, just saving myself some worries!

Give them a call and get their tec guys to ring you back I had a problem with the overclocking guy there talked me through how to sort out problem touch wood all okay since.

Eh, must confess I'm not too keen on the idea of phoning a premium rate technical support helpline when the issue isn't really my fault. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll just send the thing back to be sure :)

EDIT: This is probably a dumb question, but if the overclocking or whatever is the fault, it still counts as a hardware error, right? So I won't be charged for testing/getting it sent back?

This is why the next PC I have will be a pre-built, customised one, I'll take the hit of a few quid for peace of mind RTB guarantee. I don't like spending hours on end figuring out what the hell's wrong anymore, too much to do with my time! :D

Very true, I think getting stuff built for you so you get the Guarantee is great if you don't want the hassle of fixing it yourself. There is a certain joy to be had from fixing it yourself though :)

Absolutely, but I get enough of troubleshooting and fixing stuff at work (and I've had enough of fixing PCs in a previous job, and even nowadays for mates down the pub!).

I'd rather spend my leisure time doing something other than cursing at my PC!

I think it comes down to how much you think your time is worth. ;)

Hi guys, figured I'd bump this instead of starting a new thread. I've been having more problems with the system as of last night, and I'm getting quite frustrated. Considering just sending it back and asking for a refund. The problem seems to be similar to before, with random restarts. However, the restarts occur much more frequently when I start up a game, although they happen at other times as well. This time there seem to be bluescreens too, with errors such as "A Thread tried to release a resource it did not own" amongst others. I haven't changed anything software related, the problems started happening when I booted up the computer last night. I've tried running Chkdsk, sfc /scannow, restoring to an earlier point etc, etc. Nothing helps, I always crash shortly after loading up a game. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I guess I'll have to see about sending it back for good, since this is the second time I've had such problems with it.

Just had another blue screen while not in a game at all, was trying to install the windows updates to see if that would help - clearly not. I really need some help with this soon or I'll have to just ship it back, as I'm leaving for uni shortly.

Try a reinstall of graphics drivers ? maybe a rollback to a previous version ?

Tried updating to the latest drivers, then going all the way back to the original ones I had. Neither works.

Not sure what to suggest.... If I have a problematic PC, I start unplugging any components I can get away with including sound card, gfx if you have on board, cd drives, memory sticks (leave 1 obv ;) ), network card / cable... even try a ps/2 keyboard over usb if you've got one kicking about.

Basically the idea is to eliminate as much as you can, and if the problem is still there then at least you've narrowed it down.

Sorry I can't help more.

If you've already tried the above, then just send it back tbh and get Aria to look at it.

The problem is, I've already sent it back once. I'm not really tech savvy, and the whole point of me buying a computer from Aria was that I wouldn't have to mess around with inside bits and break something by accident. I guess I will probably end up sending it back again, but I'll probably be asking for my money back, it'll be far too much hassle to keep sending it back and forth while I'm busy at uni. Thanks for the suggestions anyway, it is appreciated!

Does it restart if you leave it sitting in the BIOS screen? If it does then you have a hardware issue if it only restarts once you get into Windows its either a driver or an OS problem unless its an overheating issue which could be caused by extra stress once you fire up Windows or an application.
Elimination of possible causes is the name of the game here I believe.

I imagine this was sorted 3 months ago.....
