grind windows to a halt. A mate has just built a PC and the drivers for the onboard sound on his mobo wouldn't work no matter how many times he tried. So he bought a £5 crappy soundcard and ever since his PC has been virtually useless. Problem only started when he put the cheap soundcard in. Everythin is fine until windows installs a driver of some sort possibly for the soundcard and the the computer goes really sluggish.

Anyone ever heard of this before?

He needs all the old drivers removed first, either fresh install and use onboard, or crappy and fresh install. Otherwise, there is a program to clean up the old drivers, too, if its a new realtek that is HD it needs a windows update hotfix first, i struggled with one and that for a few months.
