Just a quick question I'm changing the CPU in my old computer. The CPU will work with the mother board so there will be no problems there my question is do I have to tell windows that I am going to do this or will it just automatically detect the new one? Or do I have to change anything in the bios first?

Thanks

Hi, I am not 100% sure, but when I changed my socket 775 Celeron CPU over to a Pentium 4, the first thing I did before installing it was to update the bios to the latest version, after doing that I fitted the CPU and the bios recognised it straight away, and so did windows. Not sure if its the same story with AMD chips as never owed one.

Hope this helps

Should be fine, if you are going from single to dual core you might have to stick the windows disk in but other than that it should be automatically sorted.

Cheers. I have a celeron D in at the mo which I used for debugging when my computer had problems with the dual core but I've fixed that now so I'm going to change it back.

Thanks again :D I'll let you know how it all goes in a few days :D.
